Team Read beat Team Wood in exciting fashion on Sunday afternoon as Emily Garrity Parros scored the game-winner with under 10 seconds to play in the fourth quarter. Team Wood outscored Team Read 4-3 in the fourth quarter as the teams raced towards a frantic finish, but it was Team Read that came out with the 11-10 victory.

Take a look at the action from today’s exciting game:

Katie O’Donnell, who has been quiet as of late, scored the first goal of the game for Team Wood. Michelle Tumolo tacked on another a few minutes later to open the lead to 2-0 for those in gold.

On a breakaway off the draw, Cortney Fortunato put the ball away for Team Read to cut the deficit to 2-1, but Team Wood answered with another goal from O’Donnell. A second goal from Fortunato put Team Read down by one heading to the second quarter.

As Team Wood goalie Kady Glynn continued to make saves against her teammates, Fortunato continued to score. This time, she went behind-the-back to complete the hat trick and tie things up for Team Read, 3-3.

Both defenses kept the scoring quiet in the second quarter, but it was Sydney Pirreca that broke the tie to win her team 20 win points and take the 4-3 advantage at halftime.

To open the second half of the game, Ally Kennedy scored her 10th goal of the season to tie the game for Team Wood. Marie McCool, who did not net a goal in the first half, scored her first of the game to take the lead back, 5-4. Fortunato added her fourth and fifth goals of the day to extend Team Read’s lead to 7-4. Her five goals tied the single-game goal record. With two minutes to go in the third, Shayna Pirreca and Taylor VanThof each scored for Team Wood to cut Team Read’s lead to 1. Parros, who received a free position shot, drove to the net and scored for Team Read, earning her team 20 points as they outscored Team Wood 4-3 in the quarter.

Parros scored again 35 seconds into the fourth quarter, and teammate Alyssa Parrella scored on a give-and-go with Fortunato to make it 10-6, Team Read.

A goal from the speedy Kennedy, followed by a controversial call that gave Alex Aust an empty-net free position shot resulted in a two-pointer and Team Wood was suddenly very much back in the game. Kennedy finished off her hat trick to tie things for the first time since the 2nd quarter.

As 9 seconds remained in the game and 3 seconds to shoot, Ella Simkins fouled Parros, who made it count with a free position shot that earned her a hat trick and gave Team Read the lead with 6.8 seconds to go – enough for the 11-10 victory. Team Wood outscored Team Read 4-3 in the fourth quarter, earning each member 20 win points, while Team Read took home 105 points for three quarter wins and the overall game win.

For her heroics, Parros was named MVP 1 (+45) and finished the afternoon with 135 points. Fortunato, who scored five of Team Read’s 11 goals, was named MVP 2 (+30) had 141 points. Team Wood’s Kennedy, who scored her first hat trick of the season, received MVP 3 honors (+15) and had 76 points.
