Recap: Strong Start and Late Comeback Lift Team Mitchell to 101-95 Victory

DALLAS — Guard Tiffany Mitchell and forward Maddy Siegrist combined for 59 points and 18 rebounds as Team Mitchell held off a late challenge from Team Cloud to secure a 101-95 victory to begin Week Two of the 2024 Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball season at Fair Park Coliseum on Thursday night.

Mitchell, making her debut as an Athletes Unlimited captain, earned MVP 1 distinction and 599 leaderboard points after tallying a game-high 29 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field and a 5-for-7 effort at the free throw line. The former South Carolina standout also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out seven assists.

Siegrist, meanwhile, notched her league-leading third double-double of the season to collect MVP 2 accolades. She poured in a season-high 28 points after making 12-of-18 field goal attempts and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to collect 561 leaderboard points.

Guard/forward Angel McCoughtry added a season-best 19 points with seven rebounds, making 9-of-17 field goal attempts.

Guard Natasha Cloud paced Team Cloud in the loss with a season-high 29 points and 12 assists, earning MVP 3 recognition and 538 leaderboard points. She also matched the Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball single-game record by sinking six three-pointers in eight attempts.

Guard Lexie Brown added an Athletes Unlimited career-high 22 points, including an 11-for-13 performance from the charity stripe, while guard/forward Ty Young chipped in 15 points in the setback.


Team Cloud took its only lead of the game at 69-68 with 3:32 left in the third quarter, but Team Mitchell responded with a 20-5 outburst over the next six minutes to reclaim the advantage, which it did not relinquish. Siegrist and Mitchell combined to score 15 of the squad’s points in the rally.


Mitchell took over the top spot on the leaderboard with 2,294 points, while Siegrist rose seven positions and stands fourth in the league standings pending the result of Thursday’s second game between Team Gray and Team Sims. Brown also made a 10-position improvement on the leaderboard in the loss, elevating to 11th place among the league’s 40 players.


  • Team Cloud initiated a captain’s challenge with 5:43 remaining in the fourth quarter on an offensive foul against center Adut Bulgak, which was unsuccessful … Teams are now 3-for-8 in captain’s challenges this season.

  • Team Mitchell became the first team to lose three quarters and still win the game since March 25, 2023, when Team Hillmon dropped three quarters but still defeated Team Harrison, 75-70.

  • Team Mitchell’s 31 points were the most scored in an opening period this season … In addition, Team Cloud became the first squad to net 30 or more points in a second quarter this year.

  • Team Mitchell’s 40 made field goals were also a season high for any team in the league.

  • Cloud, who is tied for the league lead with three Game MVP selections this season, received her 12th career Game MVP selection to rise into fourth place on the league’s all-time list … She is one of six players with 10 or more Game MVP honors.

  • Siegrist becomes the 47th player in league history to receive a Game MVP award … She also compiled 500 or more leaderboard points for the first time in her brief Athletes Unlimited career.

  • Cloud secured the seventh double-double of her Athletes Unlimited career, including her second in as many games.

  • Cloud lost her opening game of a week as a captain for the first time in her Athletes Unlimited career … She was a perfect 5-0 in week-opening games as a team leader.

  • Siegrist notched her third double-double in four games this season.

  • Mitchell has posted three consecutive games with 25 or more points … She is also the eighth captain in league history to win their initial game as a team leader.

  • Brown scored a combined 18 points in her first three games this season before her 22-point explosion against Team Mitchell on Thursday night … It is the 21st double-digit scoring output of her Athletes Unlimited career, including her third game with 20 or more points.

  • Young, who has reached double figures in scoring 11 times in her Athletes Unlimited career, had netted just five points in her three appearances during Week One.

  • Guard Grace Berger grabbed a season-high six rebounds in the win for Team Mitchell.
