Just a month ago, the Orlando Valkyries were battling for consistency. They were sitting at sixth out of eight teams in the Pro Volleyball Federation (PVF) standings with high hopes to climb the leaderboard.

Brittany Abercrombie had already established herself as a force in the league, delivering standout performances, but the team hadn’t quite found its rhythm. Now, fast forward to today, the Valkyries have turned their season around, sitting at first in the league, and riding a historic eight-match win streak—the longest in PVF history. And at the center of it all? Abercrombie.

A proven winner, Abercrombie is the reigning 2024 AU Pro Volleyball Champion, and she’s bringing that same championship mindset to Orlando. Named the PVF Player of the Week, she has been the driving force behind the Valkyries’ success.

She has proven that opposites can be the heartbeat of a team—not just primary scorers, but game-changers in every aspect. Abercrombie leads the league in points and kills while ranking seventh in hitting efficiency—an impressive feat for an opposite. Typically, out-of-system plays favor outside hitters, making it rare for an opposite to be a team’s primary scorer, but Abercrombie’s dominance forces her setters to keep feeding her the ball. With a lethal combination of efficiency and strength—ranking eighth in kill rate—she’s simply too good to ignore.

Her record-breaking performances have only reinforced that. Abercrombie shattered PVF single-match records with 25 points and 24 kills in a three-set win over Omaha in this past week. She followed it up with an all-around masterpiece, 25 kills and 23 digs in a five-set thriller against Atlanta. That performance marked her seventh double-double of the season, an impressive feat for a right-side hitter who carries one of the heaviest offensive loads in the league.

Beyond the stats, Abercrombie’s leadership has been just as impactful. The Valkyries now sit as the league’s top team, playing with the confidence of a true contender. What was once a season of ups and downs has turned into a statement run, proving that Orlando is a force in the PVF.

Abercrombie and the Orlando Valkyries will get a short break before returning to action at home against the Columbus Fury on Sunday, March 9, at 6 PM ET. While Columbus doesn’t have any Athletes Unlimited players on its roster, Orlando boasts four, who you can watch live during Sunday night’s match on YouTube.
