A pair of Syracuse defenders re-signed with Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse to compete in the 2023 season. Becca Block and Ella Simkins will both return for their third year with the league.

Block is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and has earned the honor twice. In 2022, she started in all 12 games to accumulate 1,023 leaderboard points and finish No. 18 overall on the leaderboard out of 57 athletes.

She posted five games with 100 or more leaderboard points and ranked fifth at AU with 22 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers. Block has been a member of Team USA since 2012. At the 2022 World Lacrosse Women’s World Championship, Block started in all eight games and was a member of the defensive unit that allowed a tournament-low 39 goals. Simkins was a four-year letter winner with the Orange from 2010-2013.

Simkins returns with her fellow Syracuse alum on the defensive side of the field. Simkins started in all 12 games in 2022 and posted 15 ground balls with 10 caused turnovers. She finished ranked 20th overall on the leaderboard with 1,001 points. Simkins was a five-year letter winner with the Orange from 2017-2021.
