Emma Wightman
Biography
Personal: Wightman lettered in soccer and lacrosse during high school. She graduated from Florida in May 2022 with a bachelor's degree in health sciences.
At USC: Wightman appeared in 86 games, starting 77 of them. Wightman accumulated 129 ground balls and 114 caused turnovers between her time at Florida and USC. In 2023, she became the seventh player in USC history to earn IWLCA All-America honors, securing a spot on the Third Team. She also received First-Team IWLCA All-West/Midwest Region recognition and was named the 2023 Pac-12 Conference Defensive Player of the Year after leading USC to a conference tournament title. As a graduate student, Wightman started all 20 games, tying for the team lead with 35 ground balls and ranking second with 41 caused turnovers. In a game against Colorado on April 14, 2023, she recorded five caused turnovers and four ground balls.
At Florida: Wightman started 57 of 66 games. She collected 94 ground balls and 74 caused turnovers, ranking fourth on Florida's career caused turnovers list. In 2022, she was named the American Athletic Conference Defender of the Year and achieved First-Team All-AAC status. In her final season with the Gators, she was selected to the IWLCA All-South Region Second Team. Wightman set a single-game record for Florida with six caused turnovers against Mercer on March 30, 2022, and also set the program's single-season record for caused turnovers by a senior with 38. In her junior year, Wightman started 20 of 21 games and was part of the Florida defensive unit that ranked second in the nation with a 7.00 goals against average. She started all eight games during the COVID-shortened 2020 season, contributing 11 ground balls and five caused turnovers. As a freshman, she saw action in 15 games with seven starts. Wightman also excelled academically, earning three All-Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll recognitions and four IWLCA Academic Honor Roll certificates.
