Sam Fischer
Biography
Personal: Fischer is the chairperson of the Athletes Unlimited Softball Player Executive Committee. She has worn No. 52 since she was 10, and her walkup song is “Rock You Like a Hurricane” by The Scorpions. Fischer credits her career to her family, including her parents, Rick and Debbie, and her brother, Tom. She lists her grandparents, Roger and Sandy, as people who have made a difference in her life. Fischer majored in business at Loyola Marymount and is known for posting entertaining tweets about softball and McDonald’s. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Kevin, and their dog, Reggie. Fischer's hobbies also include reading and using her Peloton.
2024 AUX Season: Fischer collected 868 leaderboard points during the third Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball AUX campaign. She earned 630 win points with 198 stat points. Fischer was honored as Defensive MVP against Team Warren on June 10 en route to a season-high 130 leaderboard points. She recorded 100 or more leaderboard points in a game six times. Fischer was a starter in all 12 games and tallied seven hits, including a double with two home runs. She scored seven runs while driving in seven runs. Fischer authored three multi-hit games. She secured MVP 3 plaudits against Team Mazon on June 22 after going 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs batted in. She also went 2-for-3 with a home run and a double against Team Warren on June 13. 2023 Championship Season: Fischer fashioned a 12th-place effort by accumulating 1,450 leaderboard points, including 1,110 win points. She was a starter in all 15 games and posted a .273 batting average with two home runs and five runs batted in. She tied for ninth in the league with a .500 slugging percentage. She is one of six players in the league to hit a triple. Fischer hit safely in her final seven games with a pair of multi-hit outings. She was named MVP 1 against Team Garcia on August 4 after collecting two hits, including a home run, with two runs batted in and a season-high 220 leaderboard points. She went 2-for-3 with a walk against Team Gibson on August 26 to secure MVP 3 commendations. She also had a two-hit performance against Team Faraimo on August 13 to begin a seven-game hitting streak. She posted nine games with 100 or more leaderboard points.
2023 AUX Season: Fischer achieved 13th place on the final leaderboard with a total of 906 points. This included 750 win points and 156 stat points. She started in all 10 games and had a batting average of .368 with six runs batted in. She tied for third in the league with 14 hits. Throughout the season, Fischer had five games with multiple hits, with her best performance being a four-hit game in the season finale against Team Leach on June 25. On June 14, she went 3-for-5 against Team Mulipola. Against Team Zerkle on June 15, Fischer collected two hits, scored a run, and had an RBI. On June 19, she had a 2-for-5 performance against Team Filler. Finally, on June 24, she notched two hits against Team Warren.
2022 Championship Season: Fischer placed seventh on the leaderboard with a career-best 1,562 points. She ranked third in the league with 1,160 win points. Fischer started all 15 games and hit .277 with 13 hits, including two doubles and three home runs. She hit two home runs and drove in three runs against Team Mulipola to open Week Three. Fischer also had a home run against Team Mulipola in the Week Five opener, going 2-for-3 with three runs batted in. Additionally, she authored four multi-hit games, including back-to-back contests against Team Harshman (Aug. 7) and Team Mulipola (Aug. 12).
2022 AUX Season: Fischer finished in eighth place on the leaderboard after earning 1,236 points. She batted .375 while starting all 12 games and compiled 15 hits, including three doubles and two home runs, in addition to driving in a league-high 11 runs. Fischer also drew six walks and tied for second in the league with six multi-hit outings. She opened the season with four consecutive two-hit games, which included three doubles. Fischer fashioned a season-high three hits against Team Mulipola on June 19. She hit a solo home run against Team Ocasio on June 14 and also had a home run on June 23 against Team O’Toole. Fischer was the only player to serve as a captain more than once during the season.
2021 Championship Season: Fischer accumulated 916 leaderboard points in her second season. She tallied three hits in 26 at-bats while driving in three runs and started 8-of-13 games.
2020 Championship Season: Fischer tallied 930 points. She batted .302 while starting 14-of-15 games and tallied three home runs with nine runs batted in. Fischer tied for the league lead with 15 strikeouts and hit the first home run in Athletes Unlimited history with a two-run shot in the sixth inning against Team Warren on August 29, 2020.
International Experience: Fischer has international experience as a member of Team USA from 2012-15 and Team USA Women’s Elite Team in 2016. She posted a .330 batting average for Team USA with eight home runs and 31 runs batted in over four seasons. Fischer also led Team USA to Gold medals at the 2015 World Cup of Softball and Japan Cup events. She was a member of the Gold medal-winning team at the 2014 World Cup of Softball, hitting .200 with a run scored, and helped Team USA claim the Silver medal at the ISF World Championship with a .348 batting average, two home runs, and nine runs batted in.
Other Professional Experience: Fischer played two seasons with the Akron Racers of NPF before signing with Scrap Yard Fastpitch in 2018. She appeared in 81 games with Akron at shortstop and first base and contributed 19 home runs with 51 runs batted in. Fischer played two years in the Japanese Professional League for the Toda Medics.
At Loyola Marymount: In college, Fischer was a four-year letter winner at Loyola Marymount who became the first All-America selection in program history. She earned a spot on the NFCA All-America Second Team in her senior season and was the first player in LMU softball history to earn All-PCSC First Team honors four times. Fischer was a two-time PCSC Coastal Division Player of the Year for the Lions and appeared in 214 career games. She closed her career as the Lions’ all-time leader in home runs (65), runs batted in (172), total bases (495), batting average (.387), slugging percentage (.786), on-base percentage (.494), runs scored (194), doubles (52), and walks (127). Fischer led NCAA Division I with a .492 batting average and .665 on-base percentage as a senior. She was inducted into the Loyola Marymount Sports Hall of Fame in 2019 and the West Coast Conference Hall of Honor in March 2023. Fischer also had her No. 52 jersey retired.
