Softball Season 5: Week 5 Draft Dots

Here is a list of notes and tidbits related to the AU Pro Softball Week Five draft.

• Pitcher Georgina Corrick earned her first career stint as a captain after closing Week Four in second place on the leaderboard … Corrick becomes the 39th different player in Championship Season history to earn the honor of being a captain, including the 11th different captain this season.
• Outfielder Amanda Lorenz enters her fourth consecutive week as a team captain after guiding her Week Three squad to a perfect 3-0 record … Lorenz carries a 6-3 record as a captain into the final week of the season.
• Pitcher Lexi Kilfoyl will also be a captain for the fourth straight week after posting a 1-2 record in Week Four … Kilfoyl will be wearing the Purple jersey in Week Five, marking the fourth different jersey color in her four weeks as a captain.
• Pitcher Aleshia Ocasio is serving as a captain for the seventh time in her Championship Season history, but it will be her first time as a team leader since Week One of the 2022 campaign … Ocasio, the 2021 Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball champion, owns a 9-9 all-time record as a team captain.
• Ocasio’s seven weeks as a captain are tied with catcher Sahvanna Jaquish for the second-highest total in Championship Season history … In addition, her nine career wins as a captain are tied for fourth place on the Championship Season all-time chart.
• Pitcher Kathryn Sandercock was taken with the No. 1 overall pick by Team Kilfoyl during the Week Five draft, marking the fourth time in five weeks this season a pitcher was the top choice … Catcher Sharlize Palacios was the only non-pitcher selected first in a weekly draft this season. ○ A pitcher has been selected No. 1 in seven of the last 10 weeks dating back to last season.
• Pitchers were taken with all four picks in the first round of Monday’s draft.
• Eight players will have the distinction of wearing all four jersey colors during the 2024 AU Pro Softball Championship Season.

• Outfielder Bubba Nickles will wear the Blue jersey for the fourth week in a row after being taken by Team Ocasio in the fourth round during Monday’s draft … Nickles and pitcher Taylor McQuillin are the only players in the league to wear the same jersey color four times during the 2024 Championship Season. ○ McQuillin will be wearing the Orange jersey for the fourth time this year after being selected by Team Corrick in the first round … She wore Orange in the first two weeks and the last two weeks of the campaign.
• Lorenz selected six of her Week Four teammates to join her again in Week Five, including middle infielders Hannah Flippen and Kelsey Harshman, catcher Taylor Edwards, corner infielder Kelsey Stewart-Hunter and outfielders Victoria Hayward and McKenzie Clark.
  • Lorenz has selected Flippen in each of the last four weeks … Harshman and Clark are also teammates with Lorenz for the third consecutive week.
• Team Kilfoyl will have a very familiar look in Week Five after its captain brought eight of her Week Four teammates over to the roster for Week Five, including pitcher Sarah Willis, middle infielder Sydney McKinney, outfielders Kayla Kowalik, Caroline Jacobsen and Kalei Harding, catcher Jordyn Rudd-Lee, pitcher Hope Trautwein and corner infielder Baylee Klingler.
• Ocasio picked four of her Week Four teammates to be part of her Week Five squad, including outfielder Erika Piancastelli, corner infielder Delanie Wisz, catcher Gwen Svekis and pitcher Odicci Alexander.
• Svekis and Piancastelli have been teammates for the last four weeks after being claimed by Team Ocasio in Monday’s proceedings.
• Middle infielder Anissa Urtez and catcher Jordan Roberts are also on the same team for the fourth week in a row after going to Team Ocasio in Week Five.
• Four players – corner infielder Sam Fischer, pitcher Valerie Cagle, middle infielder Aubrey Leach and catcher Sashel Palacios – are on the same team for the third week in a row after being selected by Team Corrick in Monday’s draft.
• Outfielder Karli Spaid and Andrea Filler are teammates for the fourth consecutive week after being named to the Team Corrick roster on Monday.
• Pitcher Hope Trautwein and catcher Jordyn Rudd-Lee will be on the same roster for the fourth straight week after going to Team Kilfoyl for Week Five … The duo wore the Blue jersey in each of the last three weeks before moving to the Purple squad this week.
• Corner infielder Baylee Klingler and outfielder Kayla Kowalik are teammates for the fourth week in a row.
• Pitcher Sarah Willis and outfielders Caroline Jacobsen and Kalei Harding have the distinction of being teammates in four straight weeks after joining the Team Kilfoyl roster in Week Five.
• Pitcher Odicci Alexander and outfielder Aliyah Andrews will be wearing the Blue uniform for just the third time in their four AU Pro Softball Championship Seasons … It is the first time Alexander is on the Blue team roster since Week Two of the 2022 campaign.
• Middle infielder Sis Bates claimed a spot on the Orange squad for the third time in her 20 career Championship Season weeks after going to Team Corrick in the sixth round.
• Pitcher Alyssa Denham will be wearing the Gold jersey for just the third time in her four AU Pro Softball Championship Seasons, including the first time since Week Four last summer.
• Catcher Taylor Edwards has been selected to the Gold team roster for the third time in the last four weeks … Edwards had worn the Gold jersey just once in her first four seasons, which came in Week Two last summer.
• Middle infielder Hannah Flippen is wearing the Gold jersey for the eighth time in her Championship Season career, including the fourth time in the last seven weeks.
• Middle infielder Kelsey Harshman will don the Gold jersey for the fifth time in the last two seasons … She had not worn the Gold top prior to the 2023 campaign.
• Outfielder Victoria Hayward joins pitcher Odicci Alexander and catcher Dejah Mulipola as the only players in Championship Season history to wear the Gold jersey 10 or more times after being selected by Team Lorenz on Monday … Alexander has donned the Gold top a league-record 11 times, while Mulipola was a 10- time selection to the Gold squad.
• Pitcher Taylor McQuillin will wear the Orange jersey for the ninth time in her five AU Pro Softball Championship Seasons, including the sixth time in her last nine weeks.
• Outfielder Megan Wiggins has now worn the Orange jersey more than any other player in Championship Season history after being named to the squad for the 10th time in her 25 career weeks … Wiggins is wearing Orange for the sixth time in her last nine weeks.
