Recap: Team Alo Holds off Team Edwards, 7-5
WICHITA, Kansas – Team Alo scored seven runs in the first three innings and held off a late comeback bid by Team Edwards to earn a 7-5 victory in the nightcap of Sunday’s Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball AUX doubleheader at Wilkins Stadium.
Team Alo opens Series Two with a 1-0 record, while Team Edwards falls to 0-2 after dropping both games of the twinbill in its series debut.
Designated player Jocelyn Alo earned her league-leading third Game MVP award of the season after being named MVP 1. She tallied 190 leaderboard points and remained at the top of the standings after blasting a three-run home run in the second inning.
Middle infielder Andrea Filler garnered MVP 3 status as she stroked a 3-2 pitch over the left field wall and finished the game with 150 leaderboard points. The two-run bomb was her first home run of the season.
Outfielder Haylie McCleney added a 2-for-3 showing at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI double, while corner infielder Tori Vidales went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk in the victory.
Outfielder Morgan Zerkle paced Team Edwards in the loss with two hits, including a two-run home run, to receive 130 leaderboard points and MVP 2 distinction.
Catcher Taylor Edwards added two hits and a pair of RBI in the setback, while corner infielder Delanie Wisz added her second home run in as many games. Wisz was also voted as the game’s Defensive MVP.
Taylor McQuillin (3-1) earned the victory for Team Alo after surrendering four runs on five hits with three strikeouts over 5.0 innings. Odicci Alexander earned her first save of the season as she allowed one run on one hit with a pair of strikeouts in the final 2.0 frames.
Montana Fouts (2-2) was strapped with the loss after allowing seven runs on seven hits with five walks and a strikeout in 3.0 innings. Alyssa Denham held Team Alo to just two hits in 4.0 innings of relief in the circle.
KEY MOMENT
With the game tied at 1-1 after the first inning, Team Alo scored four runs with two outs in the second inning to build a four-run lead. McCleney started the scoring with an RBI double to center field to score outfielder Rylie West before Alo’s three-run homer upped the advantage to 5-1.
LEADERBOARD IMPACT
Alo remains atop the leaderboard with 710 points on the season, while Edwards moved up into second place and stands 100 points behind the leader. Wisz sprinted up the standings 12 spots into 10th place after collecting 90 leaderboard points.
