
Recap: Odyssey Sims Powers Team Bell to 98-71 Win
Sims Scores 1,000th Career Point
NASHVILLE — Guided by a 27-point effort from guard Odyssey Sims, Team Bell rolled to a 98-71 victory over Team Harrison to close out Friday night’s Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball action at Nashville Municipal Auditorium.
The win allowed Team Bell to even its record at 1-1, while Team Harrison saw its record drop to an identical 1-1.
Sims, who became the first player in Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball history to score 1,000 career points, made 9-of-16 shots from the floor while sinking all eight free throw attempts en route to her 20th career 25-point effort. She also added five rebounds and six assists to claim MVP 1 distinction and a career-high 807 leaderboard points.
Forward Maddy Siegrist led Team Harrison in the loss with 26 points on 12-of-21 shooting from the floor to claim MVP 2 honors and 254 leaderboard points. The former Villanova standout also grabbed five rebounds with a pair of assists.
Newcomer Desi-Rae Young earned the first Game MVP award of her AU career after securing the MVP 3 honor. The former UNLV star netted 14 points off the bench by sinking 5-of-6 field goal attempts in addition to a 4-for-5 effort at the free throw line.
Forward Asia Taylor tallied 16 points and team captain Kierstan Bell added 15 points with a team-high eight rebounds in the win for Team Bell, which had five players score in double figures.
Forward Isabelle Harrison contributed 15 points and four rebounds for Team Harrison in the loss, while guard Taj Cole pitched in 11 points with seven rebounds, eight assists and four steals.
KEY MOMENT
Trailing by a 14-11 margin midway through the first quarter, Team Bell used a 12-4 run to close the frame and take a 23-16 lead. Young ignited the charge with 10 of her 14 points, including a string of nine consecutive markers. Team Harrison narrowed the gap to four at 30-26 in the second quarter, but another 14-2 outburst allowed Team Bell to pull away.
LEADERBOARD IMPACT
Team Westbrook closed out Friday’s action with 10 of the top 11 spots on the leaderboard, including guard Tyasha Harris, who has 1,258 points. Siegrist holds on to the No. 8 spot with 917 points, while Sims rises into 12th with 809 points after only acquiring two leaderboard points in her season debut Wednesday night.
