The excitement of Athletes Unlimited is coming to Southern California for the first time, as the new two-week AUX Softball competition will take place at San Diego State University, June 13-25. Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Title IX and created to provide more playing opportunities and compensation to athletes and more pro softball for fans, AUX Softball (pronounced A-U-X) will feature 42 athletes playing 18 games at the SDSU Softball Stadium. All games will be broadcast live on national television in the U.S. and around the world, with the broadcast partner and schedule to be released at a later date.
Unlimited Club members have first access to presale tickets starting today. Tickets for the general public will be available starting on Friday, April 15 at 10am PT at auprosports.com/tickets.
As previously announced, the third championship season of Athletes Unlimited Softball will run from July 29 to August 28, returning to the site of the first two Athletes Unlimited Softball seasons in the Chicago area at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex in Rosemont, Illinois. The season will involve 60 players. Tickets are currently on sale at auprosports.com/tickets.
In addition, eight new athletes signed on to compete in Athletes Unlimited Softball, five of which will also participate in AUX Softball. This group features five Olympians from three countries, including 2021 Team USA alternate Hannah Flippen (San Diego) and Sara Groenewegen, who won a bronze medal for Canada in 2021. To-date, a total of 43 athletes – including 18 Olympians from four countries – have signed on to compete in Athletes Unlimited Softball, 34 of which will also participate in AUX Softball.
For the first time in Athletes Unlimited history, 16 players have been offered and signed two-year contracts, signaling a long-term commitment by the athletes and league to pro softball.
Cheri Kempf, Athletes Unlimited Senior Vice President and Director of Softball, said: “We are thrilled to bring Athletes Unlimited’s unique brand of world-class professional women’s sports to Southern California for the first time with our new AUX Softball competition at San Diego State University, while also looking forward to returning to Rosemont for our third season of Athletes Unlimited Softball. As we mark the 50th anniversary of the passage of Title IX, we look forward to all the ways in which fully-empowered athletes will chart the course for the next 50 years of women’s sports and beyond.”
