Amanda Johansen has announced that she is retiring from lacrosse after eight years as a professional player.

Johansen competed in three seasons with Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse and had a unique trajectory within the league. In 2021 she started as a facilitator before joining the roster midseason.

“Thank you, AU, for allowing me to pursue my passion at the professional level,” Johansen said. “The opportunity to play the game I love while supporting a cause and innovating women’s professional sports has made such an impact on my life. The past few summers playing against the most talented players and being surrounded by incredible people have made the decision to retire an impossible one. I will forever be a fan and I can’t wait to follow along all Season 4!”

The midfielder finished in the top 15 of athletes twice with her highest leaderboard placement at seventh overall in 2022. She is also a member of the Player Executive Committee.

Johansen also competed in the United Women’s Lacrosse League and the Women’s Professional Lacrosse League. She played for the Baltimore Ride and Baltimore Brave. She is a two-time WPLL All-Star and won the WPLL title during her time with the Baltimore Brave.

Johansen also represented the red, white, and blue on the international stage. She made her United States Senior National Team debut at the 2018 Fall Classic and was a member of the training team for Team USA’s 2022 World Championship.

She is a native of Glen Head, New York, and was a four-year letter winner at USC who started all 77 games for the Women of Troy from 2013 to 2016.
