Sam Geiersbach

Personal: Geiersbach's sister, Jessica, played lacrosse at Hofstra from 2015-18. During the 2023 season, she served as a graduate assistant coach for the University of North Carolina women’s lacrosse team. Geiersbach received her bachelor’s degree in rhetoric and communications from Richmond in 2020 and earned a graduate certificate in human resource management in 2021. She graduated from North Carolina with a master’s degree in strategic communications in May 2023. In addition to playing lacrosse, Geiersbach competed in multiple sports and played the saxophone in the marching band in high school. She also enjoys painting, playing the guitar, singing occasionally, and spending time with friends. Geiersbach grew up in the same neighborhood, attended the same high school and middle school as current Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse player Sam Apuzzo. She also played on the same travel lacrosse team as Apuzzo and former Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse player Nicole Levy.

2023 Season: Geiersbach authored a 20th place finish in the league standings after securing 958 leaderboard points. She ranked ninth in the circuit with 850 win points and started in all 12 games, where she ranked third in the league with 22 goals. Geiersbach scored at least one goal in 11 out of 12 appearances, including nine multi-goal efforts. Additionally, she tied with Marie McCool for fourth in the circuit with 27 points, attempted 79 shots (good for third in the league), and tallied 53 shots on goal. Geiersbach registered a pair of three-goal performances against Team Moreno on July 22 and against Team Colson on July 29. She also dished out two assists against Team Apuzzo on August 13 and posted 100 or more leaderboard points in a game four times, including a season-high 143 points against Team Glynn in the Week Three opener.

2022 Season: Geiersbach played in all 12 games and earned 992 leaderboard points. She had an impressive start to the season, scoring 100 or more points in the first six games. Her highest-scoring game was against Team Read on July 23, where she scored 135 points. Geiersbach started in nine games and tied for seventh in the league with eight assists. She also scored 15 goals, with at least one goal in 9-of-12 outings. Against Team Colson on August 6, she scored three goals, and she had four games with two goals. Geiersbach had a streak of scoring at least one goal in six consecutive games from July 30 to August 11.

At North Carolina: Geiersbach was part of the NCAA Championship-winning team in 2022. She appeared in 21 games as a reserve and scored 37 goals with 27 assists. Geiersbach was named the Most Outstanding Player at the NCAA Championship after scoring eight combined goals against Northwestern and Boston College. In the semifinals against Northwestern, she scored five goals, including the final four of the game, leading North Carolina to a comeback victory. In the championship game against Boston College, she added three goals. Throughout the season, Geiersbach had 11 multi-goal games and 16 multi-point efforts. 

At Richmond: Geiersbach was a starter at Richmond, where she played in 58 games from 2017-2021. She scored 162 goals and had 98 assists, ranking fourth in Richmond history with 260 career points. Geiersbach received several accolades during her time at Richmond, including being named the 2017 Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Year. She scored 66 goals in her freshman year, sharing second place on Richmond's single-season ledger. Geiersbach was also a two-time member of the Tewaaraton Award Watch List and earned All-Atlantic 10 honors twice, including First-Team recognition in 2019. In the 2019 Atlantic 10 Tournament, she was named the Most Valuable Player after scoring the game-winning goal in overtime to win the league title against UMass. Geiersbach was also a five-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week selection and received three career Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week commendations.
