Biography
Personal: Johnson is the daughter of Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Randy Johnson. Her affection for animals is evident in her cat named Stumpie. In her life journey, University of Oregon head volleyball coach Matt Ulmer has played a significant role, making a lasting difference. Beyond volleyball, Johnson's interests would have led her to be a swimmer if she were not pursuing volleyball. Her childhood was marked by a diverse range of activities, including swimming, basketball, softball, soccer, karate, and gymnastics. In her leisure time, Johnson finds enjoyment in playing video games, indulging in art, cooking, and beauty. Her talents also extend to playing the guitar, showcasing her multifaceted interests and skills.
2023 Season: Johnson, All-Position Team selection, compiled 2,333 leaderboard points in Athletes Unlimited Volleyball return, securing 14th place in the final league standings. She tied for sixth place with 240 MVP points after earning five Match MVP awards. Johnson ranked 10th in the league with 1,113 stat points and appeared in all 46 sets. She was third in the league with 183 kills and fifth in the circuit with 379 attack attempts. Additionally, Johnson was tied for 10th in the league with 19 solo blocks. She registered 10 or more kills in 12 of 15 matches, including a pair of 18-kill performances against Team Valentin-Anderson on October 9 and Team Hentz on November 3. Johnson claimed MVP 1 honors against Team Nootsara on October 8 with 17 kills and a .419 hitting percentage. She also closed Week Three with MVP 1 accolades after notching 11 kills and seven digs. Johnson opened Week Four by claiming MVP 2 recognition against Team Hentz, tallying 15 kills with seven digs. She set a season-high with 339 leaderboard points against Team Edmond on October 29 after garnering MVP 1 notice, hitting .467 with 16 kills and six digs. Johnson started the final week of the season with MVP 3 certificate against Team Hentz, establishing a season-high with 18 kills while adding five digs and two blocks. She recorded 100 or more leaderboard points in eight matches, including five outings with 200 or more points. Johnson also participated in the Athletes Unlimited Volleyball Exhibition Tour.
2021 Season: Johnson amassed a total of 1,072 leaderboard points. Over the course of 17 sets, she recorded 59 kills, contributing significantly to her team's performance. She notched an impressive 292 leaderboard points against Team Edmond on March 6, displaying her skills with a season-high 19 kills complemented by seven digs. She secured 12 kills and five digs against Team Lowe on March 7, resulting in 225 leaderboard points. She had 11 kills with a .420 hitting percentage against Team King on March 1, securing 185 leaderboard points.
Other Professional Experience: Johnson played for Nilufer Belediyespor in Turkey for the 2020-21 season. During her time there, she played in 48 sets and demonstrated her abilities by recording 101 kills.
At Oregon: Throughout her four-year tenure at Oregon, Johnson appeared in 116 matches from 2016 to 2019, accumulating a total of 1,011 kills and 306 digs across 406 sets. Displaying consistent performance, she achieved a .272 hitting percentage, securing her place as the ninth-highest in program history. Her exceptional performance in her junior year garnered her Honorable Mention All-America and All-Pacific North Region recognition from the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Her accomplishments extended to the 2018 All-Pac 12 Conference Team with an Honorable Mention commendation. Her influence was recognized off the court as well, earning her a spot on the Honorable Mention Pac-12 All-Academic Team twice. In her senior year, she emerged as a force, ranking second on the team with a career-high 2.94 kills per set average. Notably, she was named the Oregon Classic MVP in 2019, a testament to her prowess as she achieved a .581 hitting percentage across two matches, delivering 26 kills with only one error. She surpassed the 1,000 career kills mark in her final match with 14 kills against Oregon State in a four-set victory.
