Mariah Mazon
Biography
Personal: Mazon is the daughter of Joe and Maryellen Mazon and earned a dual degree in psychology and sociology from Oregon State. She is the youngest of four children in the family, and her oldest sister, Mayleen, played softball for Sonoma State. Mazon enjoys hiking, camping, or fishing with her family and spending time with her two-year-old Chocolate Lab named Enzo. She was also involved in water polo and volleyball growing up.
2024 AUX Season: Mazon had the best finish of her Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball career after ending the season in fifth place. She tallied 1,200 leaderboard points, including 780 win points and 320 stat points. Mazon tied for seventh in the league with 480 inning win points. As a team captain, she authored a 2-2 record. She notched seven games with 100 or more leaderboard points and was one of four players to surpass 250 points in a game during the season. Mazon appeared in seven games with five starts and collected a 2-2 record with a 2.89 earned run average. She ranked second in the league by throwing 36.1 innings and notched 14 strikeouts. Mazon earned MVP 1 recognition against Team Alo on June 19 after becoming the first pitcher in Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball AUX history to throw a complete game shutout. She scattered four hits and registered three strikeouts to earn her first win of the season. Mazon received MVP 2 laurels after allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts over 6.0 innings against Team Clark. She opened the season with a complete game performance against Team Leach on June 11 and threw a career-high 7.1 innings in an extra-inning loss against Team Nickles on the final day of the season.
2023 Championship Season: Mazon completed the season with 1,056 leaderboard points, including 650 win points. She tied for sixth in the league with 160 MVP points after receiving four Game MVP awards. She fashioned a 5-2 record in the circle to tie for second in the league in wins with Rachel Garcia. She ranked sixth in the league with 31.1 innings pitched over 10 appearances with two starts. Mazon completed the season with a 2.90 earned run average, allowing 13 earned runs over 31.1 innings. She tallied 14 strikeouts, including a season-high three strikeouts in three different outings. She opened the season by earning a win in the first five decisions. She threw 3.2 hitless innings against Team McCleney with three strikeouts to earn a victory in relief along with MVP 2 honors. She made her first start of the season against Team Garcia on August 5. Mazon earned a win after giving up two runs on three hits in 4.0 innings with two strikeouts. She opened Week Three with a relief victory and MVP 2 notice against Team Romero at the AU Pro Games at the Little League Softball World Series, allowing just two hits in 2.2 innings with three strikeouts. She set a season-high with 234 leaderboard points in an August 13 victory over Team Faraimo. Mazon conceded just two hits over 5.1 innings to earn MVP 1 award. She secured MVP 2 honors on August 19 after throwing 4.1 scoreless innings in a victory over Team Nickles. She matched her season high with three strikeouts while scattering four hits.
2023 AUX Season: Mazon accumulated a total of 520 leaderboard points. This included 420 win points and 40 stat points. On June 24, she received the MVP 1 recognition in Team Leach's 11-4 victory over Team Warren. Mazon made a total of six appearances, with three of them being starts in the pitching circle. Throughout the season, she achieved a record of 1-2 and recorded eight strikeouts over 15.0 innings. Her sole win of the campaign came against Team Leach on June 24, where she allowed two earned runs on five hits over 6.0 innings and struck out three batters.
2022 Championship Season: Mazon was a talented newcomer who finished with 960 leaderboard points, including 190 stat points. She ranked fifth in the league with a 3.97 earned run average while appearing in 11 games, including five starts. She had a 2-5 record with a save over 30.0 innings and recorded 24 strikeouts, including a season-high four against Team McCleney in Week Five. Mazon registered at least two strikeouts in 10-of-11 appearances.
2022 AUX Season: Mazon compiled 548 leaderboard points after being added to the league roster on June 18. She went 1-for-10 at the plate and tallied one sacrifice hit during the final series of the season. Mazon made four appearances in the circle, including two starts, and posted a 2-1 record. She earned nine strikeouts against just two walks over 10.0 innings and allowed just five earned runs and 10 hits in her four outings. Mazon threw a season-high 4.0 innings against Team O’Toole on June 23 and earned her first win as a professional in her debut on June 19, throwing 2.0 innings of relief against Team Mulipola. She also secured a win in the season finale against Team Zerkle after pitching the final frame of a 10-inning victory.
International Experience: Mazon helped Team USA win a Gold medal at the 2022 Pan American Championships. She authored a 1.40 earned run average in two appearances during round-robin play with 10 strikeouts over 5.0 innings.
At Oregon State: During her college experience, Mazon was a five-year letter winner at Oregon State who made 160 appearances with 119 starts from 2018-22. She led the Beavers to a Women’s College World Series appearance during her final season. Mazon finished her career with a 70-61 record and a 2.21 earned run average. She also authored 91 complete games with 20 shutouts and 13 saves and registered a school-record 861 strikeouts over 866.0 innings. Mazon ranked third in program history in career innings pitched and was one of seven Oregon State hurlers to earn 50 or more career victories. She limited opposing hitters to a .220 average during her career, including a .158 mark during the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign. Mazon also batted .327 during her career while starting 171-of-192 games. She tallied 21 home runs with 82 runs batted in and finished with 118 hits, including 22 doubles and two triples. Mazon earned First-Team All-America honors by Softball America as a fifth-year senior and claimed a spot on the NFCA All-America Third Team. She was a three-time NFCA All-Region performer, including First Team recognition in 2022. Mazon received four All-Pac-12 honors, including a pair of First Team nods during the 2021 and 2022 campaigns. She was a member of the All-Pac-12 Second Team as a sophomore after garnering Third-Team distinction during her freshman season. Mazon pitched three no-hitters in 2021, including a perfect game against Sacramento State on March 12, 2021. She tied for third in NCAA Division I with six shutouts during the 2020 campaign.
