Hope Trautwein
Biography
Personal: Trautwein was named assistant softball coach at the University of Houston on July 3, 2023, after spending the 2023 season as a graduate assistant at Oklahoma. She graduated from North Texas with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and also earned a master’s degree in business administration at Oklahoma. She married her husband, Dom, in December 2023 and has a bunny named Tabor. Trautwein lists Jen Tabor, her pitching coach at Oklahoma, as a person who has made a difference in her life. She played basketball and volleyball as a child and also participated in Peer-Assisted Leaders. Trautwein enjoys playing board games and considers herself to be very competitive. She says meeting ESPN’s Amanda Scarborough, Beth Mowins, Jessica Mendoza, Michelle Smith, and Holly Rowe at the 2022 NCAA Women’s College World Series was a moment that left her starstruck.
2024 AUX Season: Trautwein accumulated 768 leaderboard points while making her Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball debut. She made six appearances in the circle with three starts and posted a 0-1 record with a 7.60 earned run average. She tallied 12 strikeouts over 15.2 innings. Trautwein recorded a season-high three strikeouts over 3.2 innings against Team Leach on June 13. She threw a season-best 4.0 frames against Team Clark on June 19, scattering five hits while allowing one run. Trautwein made her Athletes Unlimited debut on June 11 against Team Wiggins, giving up two runs on three hits in 3.0 innings with two strikeouts.
Other Professional Experience: Trautwein spent two years with the USSSA Pride from 2022 to 2023. She earned All-WPF Team distinction during the 2023 season after authoring a 5-3 record with a 2.29 earned run average and 47 strikeouts over 55.0 innings. Trautwein registered a season-high seven strikeouts over 5.0 innings against Texas Smoke on July 11, 2023.
College Experience: Trautwein was a four-year letter winner at North Texas from 2018-21 before completing her career at Oklahoma in 2022. She appeared in 162 games during her career with 110 starts, achieving an 82-25 career record with 14 saves over five seasons. Trautwein compiled 850 total strikeouts over 725.1 innings with 62 complete games and 24 shutouts. She led Oklahoma to the 2022 NCAA Division I title after furnishing a 22-1 record with a 0.77 earned run average. Trautwein was a First-Team All-Big 12 Conference honoree and ranked seventh in NCAA Division I with 157 strikeouts as a redshirt senior. She was also a member of the 2022 NCAA Women’s College World Series All-Tournament Team, registering a 4-0 record and a 2.51 earned run average over 22.1 innings.
Trautwein threw two no-hitters for the Sooners against McNeese State (February 19, 2022) and UCF (May 27, 2022) and also teamed up with Nicole May and Jordy Bahl for a perfect game on February 10, 2022, against UC Santa Barbara in the season debut. During her time at North Texas, Trautwein appeared in 130 games with 89 starts. She holds North Texas career and single-season win records and stands as Mean Green’s career and single-season saves leader. Trautwein is a three-time All-Conference USA selection, including First-Team plaudits in 2019 and 2021. She ranks fourth in North Texas history with a 2.05 career earned run average and held opponents to a school-record .197 batting average.
Additionally, Trautwein established the school career standard by posting 8.10 strikeouts per 7 innings and is one of three players in North Texas history to amass 50 or more career complete games. She tallied 693 strikeouts in 598.2 innings with the Mean Green and earned Conference USA Pitcher of the Week accolades 11 times in her career at North Texas. In 2021, Trautwein was honored as Conference USA Pitcher of the Year and earned First-Team NFCA All-South Region distinction after setting school single-season standards for earned run average (1.46), strikeouts (235), opponent batting average (.172), and saves. She posted a 13-4 record in 30 appearances as a senior and became the first player in NCAA Division I history to record every out via strikeout in a perfect game with a 21-strikeout performance against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on April 11, 2021, which also marked the first perfect game in North Texas history. Trautwein earned the distinction as the third pitcher in NCAA Division I history to register 21 strikeouts in a seven-inning game during the season opener against Southeastern Louisiana on February 13, 2021.
She made 15 appearances, including 11 starts, during the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign and authored an 11-1 record with a 1.64 earned run average and 121 strikeouts over 81.0 innings, holding opponents to a .170 batting average while notching seven complete games. Trautwein broke Conference USA and North Texas single-game records with a 21-strikeout performance in an eight-inning victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on February 21, 2020. As a sophomore, she garnered First-Team All-Conference USA notice after collecting a 22-7 record with a 2.82 earned run average and 169 strikeouts over 204.1 innings, tossing 17 complete games and accumulating 10 or more strikeouts in a game three times. Trautwein helped North Texas secure the Conference USA regular season title with a complete game effort against Middle Tennessee. She opened her career during the 2018 season with Second-Team All-Conference USA and Conference USA All-Freshman Team status after compiling a 15-12 record with 168 strikeouts in 41 appearances, ranking fourth in the circuit with 15 victories and 183.2 innings pitched.
