Recap: Kilfoyl's Complete Game Gem Sparks Team Romero to 6-0 Shutout Win
ROSEMONT, Ill. — Rookie pitcher Lexi Kilfoyl authored the first shutout of her professional career and corner infielder Delanie Wisz added a pair of doubles to guide Team Romero to a 6-0 victory over Team Svekis in Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball Championship action at Parkway Bank Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.
The win allowed Team Romero to complete the opening week of the season with a 2-1 record, while Team Svekis dipped to 1-2 after suffering its second shutout loss of the weekend.
Kilfoyl, who allowed one run in her complete game debut on Friday night, limited Team Svekis to just four hits en route to her second win of the season. The former Oklahoma State product was named as the game’s MVP 1 selection and added 264 leaderboard points to her account.
Wisz, meanwhile, paced the Team Romero offense by going 2-for-4 with her two doubles to secure 200 leaderboard points and MVP 2 distinction.
Outfielder Haylie McCleney added a pair of hits, including the 100th of her Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball career, and drove in two runs to receive MVP 3 plaudits and 170 leaderboard points.
Rookie catcher Sharlize Palacios led Team Svekis with two hits, while middle infielder Sis Bates and corner infielder Baylee Klingler each contributed a hit.
Megan Faraimo (0-2) suffered the loss in the circle after conceding six runs on 10 hits in 6.2 innings with five strikeouts.
KEY MOMENT
Team Romero took a 1-0 lead in the second inning before erupting for five runs in the top of the seventh inning, including three consecutive doubles from Sydney Romero, McCleney and Sierra Romero, to seal the victory.
LEADERBOARD IMPACT
Kilfoyl rocketed up the leaderboard into first place after her 264-point outburst, while rookie outfielder Claire Davidson moved into third place with 360 points. Wisz owns a share of sixth place with 340 points after rising up the standings 19 spots.
