Recap: Scane's Four Goals Leads Team Bosco to 9-7 win over Team Apuzzo

SPARKS, Md. — Rookie attacker Izzy Scane scored a game-high four goals to lead Team Bosco to a 9-7 victory over Team Apuzzo to begin Saturday afternoon’s Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse doubleheader at USA Lacrosse Headquarters.

Team Bosco improves to 1-1 in Week One, while Team Apuzzo falls to 0-2 in the opening week.

Scane, who also contributed an assist in addition to her four-goal outburst, earned MVP 1 honors and 187 leaderboard points after guiding Team Bosco to its first victory.

Goalkeeper Britt Read fashioned nine saves to claim MVP 2 laurels with 171 points in the standings.

Midfielder Marie McCool completed the MVP sweep with MVP 3 distinction. The former North Carolina standout registered a goal with an assist and five draw controls en route to 143 leaderboard points.

Attacker Charlotte North led the way in the loss for Team Apuzzo with three goals, while team captain attacker Sam Apuzzo pitched in a pair of markers.

Goalkeeper Caylee Waters played the first half for Team Apuzzo and made five saves with just two goals allowed. Emily Sterling entered in the second half and also tallied five saves.

KEY MOMENT

Trailing by a 5-3 margin early in the third quarter, Team Bosco netted five of the next six goals to secure an 8-6 advantage on Scane’s fourth goal of the game. Apuzzo trimmed the deficit to 8-7 with 4:26 left in the fourth quarter, but rookie attacker Erin Coykendall sealed the win with a behind-the-back marker with 2:57 remaining.

LEADERBOARD IMPACT

McCool jumps to the top of the leaderboard with 264 points after her 143-point performance, while Read and Scane move into second and third in the standings with 241 points and 204 points, respectively. Defender Meg Douty gained 133 leaderboard points in the victory to rise 34 spots in the standings to ninth place.

GAME NOTES

  • North registered her 100th career point with her goal in the second quarter … She joins Apuzzo and attacker Kenzie Kent as the only players in league history to surpass the 100-point plateau while reaching the mark in just 26 games.

  • Midfielder Hannah Dorney scored the first two-point goal of her brief Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse career late in the opening period … She is the 21st player to score a two-point goal in Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse’s four-year history.

  • Defender Kristen Carr matched her career high with three caused turnovers … She has now had three caused turnovers in a game four times.

  • McCool and Read are now tied with North for ninth place on the league’s all-time Game MVP chart after earning the ninth award of their respective careers.

  • Apuzzo has tallied 95 goals in her Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse career after striking for a pair of scores on Saturday … It marked the 32nd multi-goal game of her career, the most in AU Pro Lacrosse history.

  • In addition, Apuzzo extended her point-scoring streak to 41 consecutive games … She has scored at least one goal in 39-of-41 contests.

  • North posted the 15th hat trick of her AU Pro Lacrosse career, which ranks second behind Apuzzo (18) on the league’s all-time list.

  • Scane becomes the 22nd player in AU Pro Lacrosse history to record four or more goals in a single contest.
