Recap: Corrick & Sandercock Combine for Shutout in Team Lorenz's 4-0 Victory

ROSEMONT, Ill. — Pitchers Georgina Corrick and Kathryn Sandercock combined to allow just five hits as Team Lorenz blanked Team Faraimo by a 4-0 margin to close Friday night’s Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball Championship Season doubleheader at Parkway Bank Sports Complex.

Corrick, who earned MVP 1 honors and 240 leaderboard points, scattered two hits over 5.0 innings with four strikeouts to improve to 3-0 on the season. Sandercock completed the shutout win by allowing three hits in the final 2.0 innings with a pair of strikeouts.

Corner infielder Delanie Wisz claimed MVP 2 accolades and 200 leaderboard points after belting her first home run of the season over the left field fence to give Team Lorenz a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Middle infielder Hannah Flippen added a 2-for-4 effort in the victory to complete the MVP sweep with an MVP 3 selection, giving her 170 leaderboard points.

Five different players recorded a hit in the loss for Team Faraimo. Payton Gottshall suffered the loss in the circle after giving up three runs on six hits in 3.0 innings with two strikeouts.

KEY MOMENT

Team Lorenz plated two runs in the top of the first inning on Wisz’s home run before adding a single tally in the third inning on a RBI single by corner infielder Kelsey Stewart-Hunter. The squad tacked on an insurance run in the fifth inning for a 4-0 advantage.

LEADERBOARD IMPACT

Outfielder Amanda Lorenz moved back into the top spot on the leaderboard and holds a 36-point advantage after claiming 150 leaderboard points in the victory. Corrick, meanwhile, rose to fourth place in the league standings after her season-high performance.

GAME NOTES

  • The start of Friday night’s game was delayed by 1 hour, 13 minutes due to inclement weather.

  • Catcher Taylor Edwards was named as the game’s Defensive MVP for the second time this season.

  • Team Lorenz authored the 24th shutout in AU Pro Softball Championship Season history, including the fifth clean sheet through 20 games this season … In addition, Team Lorenz notched the six win points sweep of the campaign.

  • Corrick has won her last six games after opening the season with a 1-3 record in the first four efforts … She has also secured 100 or more leaderboard points in four of the six games during the run.

  • Catcher Sharlize Palacios saw her streak of four straight games with 100 or more leaderboard points come to an end after being held to just 10 points in the loss on Friday night.

  • Wisz extended her hitting streak to five games with her home run in the first inning … She has six hits during the five-game run.

  • Wisz and Corrick join pitcher Lexi Kilfoyl as the only players in the league with multiple 200-point outings this season … Kilfoyl paces the 61-player field by recording 200 or more leaderboard points in a game three times this season.

  • Flippen has hit safely in five of her last six games after collecting a pair of hits against Team Faraimo on Friday evening … Flippen also notched her second multi-hit contest of the campaign.

  • Lorenz has registered a hit in eight of her last nine outings following a single in the seventh inning … She has 14 hits over the last nine contests, including three multi-hit performances.

  • Stewart-Hunter snapped an 0-for-14 drought with her RBI single in the third inning.
