Rebecca Harris
Biography
Personal: Harris is a member of the Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball's Player Executive Committee. She grew up living abroad as part of a military family. She spoke English and Tagalog as a child. Harris has delved into coaching at both high school and collegiate levels. She enjoys reading, traveling, writing, and adding to her shoe collection. She authored the book "How Bad Do YOU Want It?" She also works as a motivational speaker. If not a basketball player, she would be a travel blogger.
2023 Season: Harris secured 2,414 leaderboard points during the 2023 AU Pro Basketball Season. She registered a season-high of 329 points in her season opener against Team Sims on February 23. She was among nine players to wear all four jersey colors throughout the season. She averaged 1.8 points and 0.7 rebounds per contest. She scored a season-high seven points while shooting 3-of-6 from the field against Team Smith at the beginning of Week Three. She began the season with five points and three rebounds coming off the bench against Team Sims, followed by a game where she netted four points along with two rebounds against the same team on March 10.
2022 Season: Harris closed the inaugural season in 22nd place on the leaderboard, amassing a total of 3,152 points. She had a season-high of 358 points against Team Sims in Week One. Harris appeared in all 15 games, securing four starts throughout the season. She averaged 8.7 points and 2.5 rebounds per game, and posted seven double-digit scoring performances. She had five consecutive games from January 28 to February 5, where she reached double figures in scoring, averaging 12.6 points per game. During this stretch, she marked her season-high of 17 points against Team Sims on January 28. Harris secured a season-high eight rebounds to finish Week One, in addition to 13 points against Team Russell while shooting 4-for-7 from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point range. She notched 13 points against Team Hawkins at the beginning of Week Four, shooting 4-for-8 from the field, with a 3-for-6 performance from long range. She concluded Week Two with consistent 10-point games against Team Brown and Team Harrison.
Other Professional Experience: Harris played four seasons for the St. Louis Surge in the Global Women’s Basketball Association (GWBA), securing two GWBA championships with the team. She also guided the Flint Monarchs to the 2022 GWBA title. Harris has played ten seasons overseas across various countries including the Czech Republic, Greece, Poland, Turkey, and Ukraine. She is a three-time International All-Star Team selection.
College Experience: Harris transferred to Illinois after beginning her career at Rend Lake College. She made history as the first junior college player to join the Illinois team since Yolanda Smith in 2000. Throughout her time with the Fighting Illini, Harris appeared in 65 games and earning 26 starts. Her impact extended beyond her presence on the court. She ranks sixth in Illinois history with a .793 career free throw percentage. She ranked second on the team with an average of 10.1 points per game during her senior year. She was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team during the 2007-08 season. She earned Honorable Mention NJCAA All-America honors in 2005-06 after averaging 23.6 points and 5.6 assists per game. Harris led the Warriors to a 38-25 record across two seasons.
