Claire Davidson
Biography
Personal: Davidson is the daughter of Daryl and Peggy Davidson and has one older brother named Sam.
2024 Championship Season: Davidson was one of 15 players selected in the Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball College Draft.
At Duke: Davidson was a four-year letter winner at Duke, starting 146 out of 185 games for the Blue Devils from 2021 to 2024. She finished her career ranked fourth on the school's career list with a .355 career batting average, 28 home runs, and 116 runs batted in. She accumulated 149 career hits, including 36 doubles and two triples. In the circle, she recorded a 3.02 earned run average with a 14-2 record and two saves in 47 career appearances, including 21 starts. Davidson notched 89 strikeouts over 118.1 innings.
As a senior, Davidson was a consensus First-Team All-America selection by D1Softball, Softball America, and NFCA. She was a Top 10 finalist for the 2024 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award and one of four finalists for the 2024 Honda Award for Softball. She was also a unanimous selection as the 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year and garnered First-Team All-ACC recognition. Davidson led the Blue Devils to ACC regular season and tournament titles and the program’s first-ever NCAA Women’s College World Series appearance as a senior. She set program single-season records with 20 doubles and 67 runs batted in, and also led Duke in batting average (.436), hits (78), runs scored (62), home runs (18), total bases (156), and walks (32). She was one of six Duke players to earn a starting assignment in all 61 games, registered a team-high 23 multi-hit outings, including seven three-hit games, and drove in multiple runs in 19 contests, including a season-high six RBI against Iowa State on February 9, 2024. Davidson was honored as ACC Player of the Week on March 19, 2024, after leading the Blue Devils to an ACC series win over Florida State, hitting 5-for-13 (.385) with a triple, seven runs batted in, and four runs scored.
As a junior, Davidson started 58 out of 60 games, hitting .325 with five home runs and 28 runs batted in. She led the Blue Devils with 15 doubles and made 14 appearances in the circle with 10 starts, fashioning a 5-2 record with a 3.61 earned run average and 25 strikeouts. She teamed up with Sophie Garner-MacKinnon to register a no-hitter against Elon on April 10, 2023. Davidson was named ACC Player of the Week after going 9-for-16 with two home runs, four runs batted in, and five runs scored at the TaxAct Clearwater Invitational, where she also struck out seven hitters over 13.1 innings in the circle. She guided the Blue Devils to an 11-0 win over Campbell by driving in four runs.
During her sophomore season, Davidson appeared in 36 games with 16 starts as a hitter and saw action in 20 contests in the circle with six starts. She authored a .321 batting average with five home runs and 20 runs batted in, and posted a 6-0 record in the circle with a 1.94 earned run average and 39 strikeouts over 47.0 innings. She belted a grand slam against Florida A&M on March 19, 2022, for the first home run of her career, and slugged three home runs with eight runs batted in during a doubleheader against James Madison on April 12, 2022.
Davidson opened her career by playing in 29 games as a freshman, including 13 outings as a pitcher. She closed her rookie campaign with a 3.88 earned run average and 25 strikeouts in 30.2 innings. She paired up with Shelby Walters to throw the first combined no-hitter in program history against NC State on May 7, 2021, and struck out nine hitters in her first college start against Central Arkansas on February 13, 2021.
