Captains Marie McCool, Britt Read, Taylor Moreno, and Sam Apuzzo drafted their teams for Week Two of the 2024 Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse season during Monday’s draft.
Week Two begins Thursday, July 25 as Team Moreno faces Team Read at 5 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. CT on ESPNU, followed by Team McCool vs. Team Apuzzo, at 7:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. CT on Bally Sports.
Here is a list of notes and tidbits related to the AU Pro Lacrosse Week Two draft.
- Goalkeeper Taylor Moreno enters her ninth consecutive week as a team captain, but will be wearing a color other than Gold for the first time as a team leader when she dons the Blue jersey … It is the first time Moreno has worn a jersey other than Gold or Orange in her career.
- Attacker Sam Apuzzo will be wearing the Purple jersey for just the third time in her four-year Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse career … Week Two will mark the first time she has donned the Purple top since Week Three of the inaugural 2021 campaign.
- Apuzzo also embarks on her 10th consecutive stint as a team captain, carrying a 20-7 all-time mark as a team captain into Week Two … She is also the league’s all-time leader with 26 overall victories.
- Apuzzo’s 10 career weeks as a captain are tied for second among all Athletes Unlimited athletes in any sport … Guard Odyssey Sims (basketball) holds the all-time mark with 11 weeks as a team captain, while outside hitter Bethania De La Cruz (volleyball) follows in second place with 10 weeks as a captain.
- Goalkeeper Britt Read, who is making her fifth career weekly appearance as a captain, joins fellow netminder Kady Glynn as the only players in league history to serve as a team captain in every season.
- Read will be wearing the Orange jersey for the sixth time in her AU Pro Lacrosse career, including two of the last three weeks.
- Midfielder Marie McCool becomes the 19th player in Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse history to serve as a team captain after finishing the opening week with a league-high 443 leaderboard points … McCool will also be wearing the Gold jersey for the seventh time in her AU Pro Lacrosse career, the most of any jersey color.
- Rookie attacker Izzy Scane was the first overall selection for a second consecutive week and will also wear Purple for the second week in a row … The NCAA’s all-time goal-scoring leader is just the second player to be selected first overall in back-to-back weeks … Attacker Sam Apuzzo was the top pick in Week Two and Week Three during the inaugural 2021 campaign.
- Defender Caroline Wakefield sports the Gold jersey for the sixth consecutive week and wears the color for the ninth time in her career … She has worn Gold more than any other player in Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse history, surpassing Taylor Moreno’s eight instances … Catcher Dejah Mulipola is the only player to wear the Gold jersey more than Wakefield, doing so 10 times during her AU Pro Softball Championship Season career.
- Defender Meg Douty will wear the Purple jersey for the eighth time in her 15 weeks in the league, which is the most in AU Pro Lacrosse history … She has been selected to the Purple squad in four of the last six weeks dating back to last season.
- For just the second time in her Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse career, defender Kristen Carr will don the Orange jersey … The North Carolina product, who is a member of the Orange squad for the first time since Week Three last season, wore Purple in each of the previous three weeks.
- Midfielder Lindsey McKone was selected to Team Apuzzo and will put on the Purple jersey for the fifth time in the last six weeks … She has worn the Purple top seven times in her 15 career weekly segments.
- Attacker Andie Aldave was selected 20th in the draft for a second straight week and will wear the Gold jersey for the fourth straight week … Representing North Carolina and Notre Dame, Aldave has worn Gold more than any other color in her AU Pro Lacrosse career.
- This is the second straight week that only goalkeepers were selected in the 12th round.
- For the fourth time in her six-week Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse career, midfielder Hannah Dorney will wear the Gold jersey … The former Notre Dame standout wore Purple in Week One and opened her career by wearing Orange in Week One last season.
- The biggest mover on the draft board was attacker Sam Geiersbach, who jumped 24 spots on the draft board … She was selected 40th in Week One before moving inside the top 20 at No. 16 on Monday night.
- Seven of the top 15 picks were Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse newcomers, including five of the top 10 choices … Attacker Sydni Black rose 16 places from Week One to Week Two as she was the first pick of the second round by Team McCool.
- All three Stony Brook products will play for Team Moreno in Week Two … Midfielder Ally Kennedy was the squad’s first round selection before rookie midfielder Ellie Masera followed in the third round … Attacker Kailyn Hart went to Team Moreno in the 11th round.
- This is the first time in five weeks that Apuzzo and midfielder Dempsey Arsenault will be on opposing teams after Arsenault was taken by Team McCool to close the first round.
- Attacker Livy Rosenzweig joins Team Blue for the fourth time in her six weeks in Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse … The Loyola Maryland product dropped a league-high 27 spots on the draft board to No. 34 overall … She leads the league with 18 draw controls and registered one goal and one assist.
- ● Rookie midfielder Sierra Cockerille moved up 16 places on the draft order with the 36th overall pick of the Week Two draft … The lone Syracuse product on the 2024 Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse roster is in Gold for the second straight week.
