Theresa Plaisance
Biography
Personal: Plaisance's mother, DoBee, spent 15 seasons as the head women’s basketball coach at Nicholls State and compiled 174 victories, including 111 wins in Southland Conference play. Her brother, Scott, played at the University of New Orleans from 2017-18 after two seasons at Louisiana Lafayette. Plaisance majored in sports administration at LSU with a leadership concentration. She would be a business owner if she was not playing basketball. She lists her parents as people who have made a difference in her life. Her hobbies include spending time with friends and family, traveling, eating great foods, playing board games, spending time with her dog, reading. and talking. She was involved in football, choir, volleyball, softball, bell choir, pottery, and Taekwondo as a child.
2023 Season: In her debut season with AU Pro Basketball, Plaisance finished in 12th on the league leaderboard with 4,777 points. She accumulated 3,050 win points, sharing the eighth spot with guard Evina Westbrook and forward Lydia Rivers. Plaisance was among league leaders with 1,577 stat points. She recorded 300 or more leaderboard points in 9 out of 15 contests, including two outings with over 500 points. She set a season high with 580 leaderboard points in the season opener against Team Sims. As a starter in 12 of 15 games, Plaisance averaged 11.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per outing. She etched her name in the AU Pro Basketball record books as the single-season record holder with 22 blocked shots in 15 games, including four rejections against Team Hillmon on March 8. She ranked second in the league with 35 made three-point field goals and posted a .443 three-point field goal percentage. Plaisance ranked fourth with 79 shots from long range and eighth with 55 defensive rebounds. She finished ninth in total rebounds (80) and steals (17). Plaisance had nine double-digit scoring efforts. She had a pair of 20-point performances, including a season-high 23 points against Team Smith on March 4, where she shot 10-of-16 from the field. She tied an Athletes Unlimited single-game record with six made triples during a 21-point performance against Team Smith on March 24. She narrowly missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds against Team Sims in the Week Two opener.
Other Professional Experience: Plaisance is a nine-year WNBA veteran after being drafted by Tulsa with the No. 27 overall pick in the 2014 WNBA Draft. She has averaged 4.5 points and 3.0 rebounds across 218 games. Plaisance started in 52 career contests, including a career-high 25 starts during the 2017 season while playing for Dallas. She owns a 36.3 percent field goal shooting accuracy and a 78.4 percent success rate from the free-throw line. She aided the Las Vegas Aces in securing the 2022 WNBA title, where she appeared in 31 games with two starts, averaging 4.0 points per contest and shooting at 37.1 percent from the field. Initially beginning her WNBA journey with Tulsa, later transitioning to Dallas, Plaisance appeared in 134 outings before being traded to Connecticut during the 2019 campaign. Her 2017 season marked a career high, averaging 7.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per contest. She signed as a free agent with Washington in 2021, where she started 11 of 31 games with the Mystics, maintaining a 6.4 scoring average. She has spent time with Clarinos in Spain during the 2021-22 season, where she led the team in scoring (16.1), rebounding, blocked shots, and three-pointers across 15 games. She has also played in China and Turkey.
International Experience: Plaisance helped Team USA win the 2010 FIBA Americas U-18 Championship, averaging 7.8 points over five games. She also ranked second in the tournament field with nine blocked shots. She was named to 2013 USA Women’s World University Games Team that won thr Gold medal in Russia. She participated in 2011 USA Women’s U-19 World Championship Team trials.
College Experience: Plaisance was a four-year letter winner at LSU who started 63-of-123 games from 2010-14. She earned All-Region 3 and Honorable Mention All-America status by the WBCA in 2013. She is a two-time All-Southeastern Conference selection who finished her career with 1,293 points and 637 rebounds. She was also named to 2013 SEC All-Defensive Team. She ranks 23rd on Tigers’ career scoring list and 17th on the career rebounding ledger. She is fifth in school history with 147 career blocked shots. Plaisance led LSU in scoring and rebounding as a junior and senior. She paced the team with 85 blocked shots during 2012-13 campaign, the fifth-highest mark in program history. She also tied the LSU single-game record with nine rejections against Alabama on Mar. 2, 2014. She led SEC with a 17.0 scoring average during the 2012-13 season, becoming the fourth player in program history to pace the league in scoring. Plaisance was a member of three NCAA Tournament teams at LSU and was named Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Year in 2013 and 2014. She was a candidate for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award and member of the 2014 WBCA Good Works Team.
