Sydney Colson
Biography
Personal: Colson is a member of the Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball’s Player Executive Committee and served as the chairperson from 2022 to 2023. She aspires to become an actress or sports reporter after playing career is finished. Her hobbies include reading and immersing herself in a wide array of television shows and movies, including comedy, crime, and psychological thrillers. She served as a coach at Rice University from 2015 to 2017 and led the Owls to the 2016-17 WBI title.
2023 Season: In the 2023 AU Pro Basketball season, Colson accumulated 3,014 leaderboard points, securing the 28th position on the leaderboard. She ranked 15th in the league with 1,324 stat points. She achieved 300 or more leaderboard points in a game on four occasions, including three efforts with 400 or more points. She posted 520 leaderboard points against Team Harrison at the beginning of Week Two. Throughout the season, she was one of nine players to adorn all four jersey colors. Colson ranked third in the league with a .420 three-point field goal percentage, making 20-of-46 attempts. She also dished out 73 assists, ranking fourth. As a starter in 11-of-15 games, Colson maintained an average of 9.9 points and 2.1 rebounds per appearance. 2022 Season: In the inaugural 2022 season, Colson finished 12th on the leaderboard with 4,162 points. She authored 400 or more points in a game five times, achieving a season-high of 481 points against Team Cloud on February 11. Colson earned three game MVP awards, including a pair of MVP 1 commendations. She ranked second in the league with 104 assists, notably achieving three games with 10 or more assists. She led her team in assists in 10 out of 15 appearances, fashioning seven or more assists in seven of those games. Colson started all 15 games, accumulating 456 minutes on the court. She also ranked 10th in field goal attempts (146) and three-point field goal attempts (62). She posted 10 double-digit scoring efforts, including two games with 20 or more points. On February 11 against Team Cloud, she set her season high with 20 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field while also contributing nine assists. She led Team Hawkins to a memorable victory over Team Cloud on February 18, where she matched her season high with 20 points, including a game-winning three-pointer from beyond midcourt in overtime. She capped off the season with back-to-back double-digit scoring efforts, scoring 13 points with 10 assists against Team Harrison on February 25, followed by another 13-point, 10-assist effort in the triple-overtime victory against Team Cloud. Other Professional Experience: Colson has had a decade-long tenure in the WNBA, having played in 210 career games since being drafted as the No. 16 overall pick by the Connecticut Sun in the 2011 WNBA Draft. She has played for five different teams: Connecticut, New York, San Antonio, Las Vegas, and Minnesota. In 2016 while with San Antonio, she averaged 5.1 points per game across 34 contests. She helped the Las Vegas Aces secure the 2022 WNBA title, as she appeared in 18 regular-season games, averaging 1.6 points per contest, including a pair of five-point performances. Colson was re-signed by Las Vegas for the 2023 season, where she came off the bench in 28 games, contributing to the team's consecutive WNBA title wins. She has played in Poland and Israel. She led Sleza Wroclaw to the Polish EBLK semifinals in 2018-19 with 14 double-digit scoring performances. Colson earned recognition during her time in Israel, receiving the Eurobasket.com All-Israeli League Honorable Mention distinction in 2017-18 while playing for H.R. Le-Zion. Her season with Lider Pruszkow during the 2012-13 campaign also saw her contribute significantly with 11 double-figure scoring efforts, aiding the team in reaching the Polish Cup semifinals.
College Experience: During her time at Texas A&M, Colson served as a team captain for three seasons and led the Aggies to a pair of Big 12 Tournament titles. She played in 138 career games, which is fifth-most in program history. Colson started in 86 games and was an honorable mention Associated Press All-America and All-Big 12 Conference selection in 2010-11. She etched her name in Texas A&M's history, ranking fifth with 504 career assists and fourth on the all-time list with 255 steals. She dished out an impressive 15 assists against Nebraska on March 5, 2011, a performance that ranks fifth in school history. In her senior season, she led the Aggies with a .377 three-point field goal percentage. Colson consistently led Texas A&M in assists for three consecutive years.
