Biography
Personal: The daughter of Sampson Holmes and Juanita Logan, Holmes majored in psychology at UNLV. She started playing basketball at eight years old and models her game after Kobe Bryant. Holmes works as a senior associate at World Financial Group. She also competed in volleyball and track and field as a child and enjoys spending time outdoors and listening to old-school music.
2024 Season: Sequoia Holmes finished her first Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball season in 16th place after accumulating 3,788 leaderboard points. She tied for fifth in the league with 3,000 win points. Holmes appeared in all 12 games with three starts and averaged 5.8 points and 3.1 rebounds per contest. She opened her Athletes Unlimited career with 14 points against Team Mitchell on February 29, making 5-of-11 shots from the field. She finished her debut with a season-high 537 leaderboard points. Holmes also finished Week One with a 10-point performance against Team Gray. She grabbed a season-high five rebounds against Team Mitchell on March 17 and Team Sims on March 23.
Other Professional Experience: Holmes appeared in 62 games over four WNBA seasons with six starts and averaged 2.8 points and 1.3 rebounds per game in her career. She opened her career with Houston in 2008, where she saw action in 17 games with three starts. She tallied 3.1 points and 1.4 points per outing and scored a season-high eight points against Sacramento (September 15, 2008) and Connecticut (July 1, 2008). She played in 15 games as a reserve with Phoenix during the 2010 campaign and netted a season-high eight points against San Antonio on August 22, 2010. Holmes averaged a career-best 3.3 points per game while making 27 appearances for San Antonio during the 2017 campaign. She tallied 14 points against Chicago on August 10, 2017, in addition to a 13-point performance at Atlanta on July 18, 2017. She saw action in three games as a reserve with Las Vegas during the 2018 season. She also played professionally in Angola, Israel, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Germany, and Slovakia.
At UNLV: Holmes was a four-year letter winner at UNLV, where she appeared in 120 games from 2004-08. She accumulated 1,485 career points while shooting 40.7 percent from the field. She was honored as the 2006-07 Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Holmes was a three-time All-Mountain West performer who earned First-Team status as a senior and Second-Team accolades as a junior. She ranks among Rebels’ career leaders in field goals made (552), field goals attempted (1,365), and steals (263). She led UNLV in scoring as a junior and senior, including an 18.3 average during the 2007-08 campaign. She also grabbed a team-high 7.3 rebounds per outing during her senior season and paced the team in steals all four years. Holmes was a Third-Team CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree in 2007-08.
