Sequoia Holmes
Biography
Personal: Holmes is the daughter of Sampson Holmes and Juanita Logan and majored in psychology at UNLV. She began playing basketball at the age of eight.
Other Professional Experience: In her WNBA career spanning four seasons and totaling 62 games with six starts, Holmes maintained an average of 2.8 points and 1.3 rebounds per game. She commenced her career with the Houston team in 2008, participating in 17 games with three starts and averaging 3.1 points and 1.4 rebounds per outing. Notable performances include scoring a season-high eight points against Sacramento (September 15, 2008) and Connecticut (July 1, 2008). Her journey continued with stints at Phoenix in 2010, San Antonio in 2017, and Las Vegas in 2018. Holmes also showcased her talents internationally, playing in Angola, Israel, Turkey, and Greece. She led Interclube to a Gold medal at the 2014 FIBA Africa Clubs Champions Cup and securing a Silver medal at the 2015 event.
College Experience: During her tenure at UNLV from 2004-08, Holmes was a prominent four-year letterwinner, featuring in 120 games. She amassed 1,485 career points while boasting a 40.7 percent field goal shooting. Her accolades included being honored as the 2006-07 Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Holmes was a consistent performer, earning All-Mountain West recognition three times, securing First-Team status as a senior and Second-Team accolades as a junior. Her contributions landed her among the Rebels' career leaders in multiple categories, including field goals made (552), field goals attempted (1,365), and steals (263). She led UNLV in scoring during her junior and senior years, averaging 18.3 points and securing a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game in her senior season. She was also a Third-Team CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree in 2007-08.
