Biography
Personal: Sims has two brothers. She is a mother to her son, Jaiden, and has two dogs. She enjoys bowling and watching movies on Lifetime Movie Network. Sims also participated in volleyball and track and field as a child. She majored in speech communication at Baylor and lists former Baylor assistant women’s basketball coach Damion McKinney as a person who has made an influence in her life. She had her No. 3 jersey retired by MacArthur High School on May 21, 2010.
2023 Season: Sims posted a third-place finish on the league leaderboard with 6,383 points during her second AU Pro Basketball campaign. She led the league with 3,273 stat points while tying for sixth with 420 MVP points. She posted seven games with 500 or more leaderboard points, including a career-high 650 points against Team Sims to close Week One. She secured four consecutive results with 500 or more leaderboard points from February 24 to March 3. She ranked third in the league with eight Game MVP awards, including four MVP 2 distinctions and four MVP 3 commendations. She held the top spot on league’s leaderboard after 12-of-15 game days, setting league single-season and career standards. She is the first player in AU Pro Basketball history to serve as a captain during all five weeks of a season. Sims posted an 8-7 record as a captain, setting the league single-season mark for most victories by a captain. She served as the Gold team captain for the final four weeks of the season. She became the first player in AU Pro Basketball history to reach 10,000 career leaderboard points. She was a starter in all 15 games who led the league in scoring average (26.1 ppg), minutes played (560), field goal attempts (314), free throws made (89), and assists (106). Sims finished the season as the third player in league history to accrue 100 or more assists in a single campaign. She ranked second in the league in free throw attempts (103) and fouls drawn (86), and seventh in the league with 24 steals. She also set the league single-season record by scoring 392 points over 15 games. Sims paced the league with five games of 30 or more points, including an AU career-high 38 points against Team Harrison on March 24. She established the league record by scoring 20 or more points in 11 consecutive games before being held to seven points in season finale against Team Smith, which also ended her string of 23 straight double-digit scoring performances dating back to 2022 campaign. Sims compiled three straight double-doubles to begin the season while setting league standard for most assists in a single week (38). She matched the AU Pro Basketball single-game record by drawing 11 fouls against Team Harrison on March 4. She also established the league single-game standard with 17 free throw attempts in 109-107 setback. She grabbed a season-high eight rebounds in three different games.
2022 Season: Sims finished sixth in the league with 5,043 leaderboard points. She authored five games with 400+ points, including a season-high 564-point effort on February 12 against Team Cloud. She was honored as a game MVP four times. She was the third-leading scorer in AU Pro Basketball with 20.7 points per game. She also ranked third in total points (311), field goals made (114), field goal attempts (240), and three-point field goal attempts (89). She tied for fourth in the circuit with 80 assists, including a season-high 12 assists against Team Mitchell on January 28. She ranked sixth with .416 three-point field goal percentage and second in the league with 37 made three-pointers. She shot 90.2 percent from the free throw line (46-for-51) while starting all 15 games. Sims also ranked seventh in the league with 67 defensive rebounds. She reached double figures in scoring in 14-of-15 appearances, including eight games with 20+ points. She finished the season with five straight 20-point efforts. She authored her lone double-double of the season on February 11 against Team Brown with 16 points and season-high 12 rebounds. She shot 5-for-12 from the field and was a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line in 38 minutes. She netted a season-high 32 points on 12-of-21 shooting from the floor against Team Cloud to complete Week Three. Sims also grabbed eight rebounds while going 4-of-4 at the free throw line. She registered a 31-point performance against Team Mitchell on January 28, going 9-for-20 from the field and 9-of-9 from the charity stripe. She closed the season with 30 points against Team Brown, including 6-of-8 three-point field goal attempts. She finished the game by making 12-of-24 field goals in 35 minutes.
Other Professional Experience: Sims is a ten-year WNBA veteran who has played for six different teams. She has appeared in 268 regular season games with 180 starts. She owns a 11.1 career point per game average while knocking down 38.9 percent of her field goal attempts. Sims was selected No. 2 overall by Tulsa Shock in 2014 WNBA Draft. She averaged 16.7 points per game in her first season with Tulsa while shooting 40.6 percent from the field. She earned a 2019 WNBA All-Star selection while playing for Minnesota. She has also spent time with Las Vegas, Dallas, Atlanta, Minnesota and Connecticut during her career. She helped the Connecticut Sun reach 2022 WNBA Finals. She signed a seven-day contract on August 3 before inking season-long deal on August 10. Sims appeared in five regular season games for the Sun in addition to all 12 playoff contests. She saw action in 28 games in return to Dallas during 2023 campaign, averaging 2.0 points and 2.2 assists per outing. She has also played in South Korea and Turkey during the offseason.
International Experience: Sims played on USA Basketball’s World University Games team in 2011. She led Team USA to a Gold medal after averaging 6.2 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. She also earned a Gold medal with Team USA at the 2013 World University Games in Russia. She averaged 12.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game en route to securing Most Valuable Player honors.
College Experience: Sims was a three-time Associated Press All-America selection at Baylor. She was the recipient of the Wade Trophy and Naismith Award in 2014. She is a four-time First-Team All-Big 12 and Big 12 All-Defensive Team pick who earned Player of the Year honors in 2014. Sims owns the Baylor career records for three-point field goals made (258) and attempted (641). She ranks second in program history with 331 career steals. She set the Baylor single-season scoring record by averaging 28.5 points per game in 2013-14. She also made a school-record 98 three-pointers as a senior. Sims appeared in 145 career games for Baylor with 132 starts. She is third on Baylor’s career scoring list with 2,533 points. She ranks second in school history with 641 career assists. She is one of two players in program history to score 1,000 points in a single season.
