Russell majored in communications at the University of Tennessee.

Russell was drafted in the second round by the New York Liberty in the 2018 WBA Draft. She was then picked up off waivers by the Seattle Storm and went on to win two WNBA Championships (2018, 2020). Russell has also played in Poland, Turkey and Australia.
