Biography
Personal: Sutherland is the daughter of Saudia Stokes and Clinton Sutherland and has one younger sister. Her father played basketball at the University of Cincinnati before enjoying a professional overseas career. Sutherland majored in communication studies at Kansas.
Other Professional Experience: Aishah Sutherland has played overseas since 2012. She has spent time in Chile, Spain, France, Israel, Jordan, South Korea, Latvia, Lebanon, Poland, Puerto Rico, and Turkey. She also appeared in preseason action for the Atlanta Dream in 2012. Sutherland averaged 10.0 points and 6.2 rebounds per game over 20 appearances in the 2012-2013 season for Orvieto in Italy. She also contributed 10.3 points and 10.0 rebounds during the 2013-2014 campaign while seeing action in 23 games. She fashioned a 15.2 scoring average and grabbed 8.1 rebounds per contest over 29 fixtures with Polkowice in Poland during the 2014-2015 BLK season. She averaged 15.6 points and 8.3 rebounds per contest for KS JAS FBG Sosnowiec in Poland during the 2015-2016 season. Sutherland spent the 2016-2017 season with TTT Riga in Latvia, where she averaged 15.8 points per game in 22 contests during the Latvian LSBL campaign. She also played for Sporting AI Riyadi Beirut in Lebanon in 2016-2017. She split time between Gernika Kirol Elkartea Saskibaloia (Spain) and Woori Bank Wibee (Korea) during the 2017-2018 campaign. Sutherland competed for Rochee Vendee BC in France in 2019, contributing 6.6 points and 5.2 rebounds over nine games. She played for three teams during the 2019-2020 season before signing with Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion in Israel in February 2021, where she appeared in nine games and averaged 16.9 points per outing during the remainder of the 2020-2021 campaign. She played in 16 fixtures with CTL Zaglebie Sosnowiec during the 2021-2022 season in Poland, averaging 14.4 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. She spent 2022-2023 with Casademont Zaragoza in Spain and Toulouse Metropole Basket in France. Sutherland competed for Nesibe Aydin Ankara in Turkey during the 2023-2024 season before moving to Elitzur Holon in Israel in February 2024.
At Kansas: Aishah Sutherland was a four-year letter winner at Kansas who stands sixth on the Jayhawks’ all-time list with 130 career games played from 2008 to 2012. She ranks 22nd on the Jayhawks’ career scoring chart with 1,236 points and is fourth in Kansas history with 916 career rebounds and 149 career blocked shots. She authored 32 career double-digit rebounding games, the fifth-highest total in program history, and also notched 19 career double-doubles. She earned Honorable Mention All-Big 12 Conference notice as a senior after starting all 34 games. She ranked among Big 12 leaders with 13.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per contest. Sutherland pulled down 22 rebounds in a January 18, 2012 victory over Oklahoma State, the most caroms in a game by a Kansas player since 1981. She also swatted six shots against Texas Tech on January 25, 2012, marking the most rejections in a game since 2002. As a junior, she started 22 of 34 games and ranked 11th in the Big 12 with a 7.2 rebounding average. She also contributed 8.4 points per game while shooting 46.2 percent from the field. She collected 29 starts in 33 appearances as a sophomore while posting 9.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per contest. She led Kansas with 36 blocked shots during the 2009-2010 campaign. Sutherland started her college career by playing in 29 games during the 2008-2009 season, ending the season as the Jayhawks’ fifth-leading scorer with a 5.9 average while rating third on the squad with a 4.6 rebounding clip.
