After the first two games of the weekend were postponed due to thunderstorms, Week 4 of Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse kicked off midday on Saturday. While Dempsey Arsenault was not able to play, this matchup between Team Arsenault and Team Glynn was highly anticipated.

It was a strong game for goalkeeping, as Britt Read broke her own single-game save record with 14, but she couldn’t stop Team Glynn from beating Team Arsenault 9-6. Kayla Treanor’s hat trick led the scoring for Team Glynn, as Grace Gabriel and Cortney Fortunato also added two goals.

If you missed any of the action, here are the highlights from Team Glynn vs. Team Arsenault:

Ally Kennedy started the offense for Team Glynn with the first goal of the game, getting the defense on their heels.

Treanor tried to add onto Team Glynn’s lead, but Read stuffed her shot in one of the best saves of the season. Early defensive play of the week, perhaps?

Not willing to stay behind, Kenzie Kent fired a quick stick shot past Mira Shane to tie the game at one goal apiece.

After missing last weekend, Treanor spun around the defender and scored from her left side, putting Team Glynn up 2-1. On the very next possession, Kent answered once again with her second goal of the day and re-tied the game.

With just under two minutes left in the first quarter, Gabriel made a lane for herself between the defenders and put Team Glynn up 3-2.

Read continued her strong play as the quarter came to an end with back-to-back saves, keeping her team within one.

Both defenses were lights out to start the second quarter, as Read quickly added her sixth and seventh saves of the game.

Fortunato got the scoring started with just over five minutes left in the quarter, putting Team Glynn up 4-2.

After drawing a foul, Izzy McMahon took an 8-meter free position shot and buried it in the back of the net, putting Team Arsenault within one.

Sammy Jo Tracy tried to score a tricky behind-the-back goal, but Shane was able to read it and make the save. Kent tried to notch a hat trick shortly after, but Shane snuffed the attack once again.

Treanor tried to beat the buzzer with a strong shot at the end of the half, but it bounced off the crossbar. The first half was low-scoring, with Team Glynn up 4-3 on Team Arsenault.

To start off the third quarter, Tracy tied up the game 4-4 with a rocket in between Glynn’s legs.

Shortly after, Lindsey McKone rifled a diving shot past Glynn to give Team Arsenault their first lead of the game.

Treanor quickly scored the equalizer, however, stopping Team Arsenault’s run in its tracks.

With one minute remaining in the quarter, Treanor scored on an 8-meter free position shot to secure the hat trick and put Team Glynn up 6-5.

The fourth quarter was crucial for both teams, as 60 quarter win points were on the line due to ties in the second and third quarters.

Read started out the final quarter with her 12th save of the game, breaking her own Athletes Unlimited record for most saves in a game.

Gabriel scored the first goal of the quarter, running through swinging sticks and shooting a strike past Read to give Team Glynn a two-goal lead. Fortunato quickly made it 8-5 Team Glynn with just over 5 minutes left in the game.

With time running out for Team Arsenault to make a comeback, Amanda Johansen found the back of the net to put her team within two.

Taylor Vanthof halted Team Arsenault’s hope with under a minute left, drawing Read off her line and burying the ball into the empty net. Team Glynn’s lead grew to three goals, up 9-6 on Team Arsenault.

The score of 9-6 held up, and each member of Team Glynn earned 105 win points as the final buzzer sounded.

Treanor earned 192 points and was named MVP 1 for her game-leading three goals. Shane earned 175 points and was voted MVP 2. Read earned 92 points and was named MVP 3 for her 14-save effort.
