Sydney Colson Inks Deal With Indiana Fever
Two-time WNBA champion Sydney Colson is the latest Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball player to be snatched up by a new squad during the WNBA free agency period. The 10-year WNBA veteran will join the ranks of the Indiana Fever for the 2025 season, where she will offer her wealth of experience to a team already facing high fan expectations.
This career move for the 5-foot-8 guard concludes her three-year stint with the Las Vegas Aces – a team with which she helped capture two WNBA titles in 2022 and 2023. Colson’s extensive professional resume also includes tenures with the Chicago Sky in 2020, the Aces in 2019, and the Minnesota Lynx in 2018. Those one-year terms followed her departure from the San Antonio Stars in 2017 after three seasons in the Lone Star State, and her first WNBA contract with the New York Liberty in 2011.
Colson appeared in 31 games for the Aces, averaging 2.5 points per game, but some of her greatest contributions in Vegas don’t show on a stat sheet.
In fact, after sitting out the 2021 WNBA season, Colson thought that her days in the WNBA could be over, and seriously considered hanging up her court shoes to pursue a comedy career. However, it was her unique ability to impact locker room culture that appealed to Aces coach Becky Hammon, who saw Colson shine during AU Pro Basketball Season 1.
“I knew that was somewhere where I’ve always thrived because I care about that aspect of it a lot, with relationships, making sure people are good in the locker room,” Colson said of her off-the-court role in Las Vegas. “And I know it’s a tough pill to swallow, for people to be role players sometimes or bench players. And I knew that it wasn’t something that attacked my pride.”
The continuation of her pro basketball career did not keep the veteran guard from her comedic endeavors, as she now cohosts the unscripted comedy series “The Syd and TP Show“ with her former Aces teammate and fellow AU basketball player Theresa Plaisance. Colson’s talent for fostering a positive team culture may still serve her well as she joins some of the young talent in Indy.
The Texas A&M alum will support second-year guard Caitlin Clark and settle in alongside the Fever’s other offseason acquisitions, Sophie Cunningham, Natasha Howard, and DeWanna Bonner, ahead of the highly anticipated 2025 season.
Colson’s big career news comes after the AU Pro Basketball Season 4 tip-off in Nashville, where the four-year AU participant is a Week One captain. Team Colson is slated to face Team Westbrook at Nashville Municipal Auditorium on Friday, Feb. 7, at 5 p.m. CT.
