Sam Fischer retires from pro softball after decade-long career
Fischer has competed with Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball since its inception, had numerous stints with the USA Softball Women’s National Team, and played overseas.
A four-year letter winner at Loyola Marymount University, Fischer put the Lions on the map in the college softball world, becoming the first All-American in program history. She is in the LMU records books ranked No. 1 in career home runs (65), RBIs (172), total bases (495), batting average (.387), slugging percentage (.786), on-base percentage (.494), runs scored (184), doubles (52), and walks (127). She was inducted into the LMU Sports Hall of Fame in 2019.
Upon graduating in 2012, Fischer joined Team USA from 2012-15 and competed with the Team USA Women’s Elite Team in 2016. She was a silver medalist at the World Championships twice, won gold at the World Cup twice, and took gold at the Japan Cup.
She played two seasons with the Akron Racers of National Pro Fastpitch before signing with Scrap Yard Fastpitch in 2018. Fischer also played two years in the Japanese Professional League for the Toda Medics.
Fischer was a member of the inaugural AU Pro Softball season in 2020 and has competed in every season since. Fischer has placed within the top 15 of athletes on the final leaderboard in four seasons. She is completing her second term on the Player Executive Committee and is the current chairperson of the PEC.
