Recap: Vidales' Historic Performance Leads Team Mazon Past Team Alo, 8-1

WICHITA, Kansas – Corner infielder Tori Vidales hit a grand slam and tied an Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball single-game record with six runs batted in to guide Team Mazon to an 8-1 victory over Team Alo in the finale of Sunday’s AUX doubleheader at Wilkins Stadium.

The victory moves Team Mazon to 2-1 in Series Three, while the loss drops Team Alo to 1-2 entering the final day of the season.

Vidales, the game’s MVP 1 selection, finished the evening with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate to go with 250 leaderboard points. She finished a triple shy of the cycle after hitting her grand slam in the third inning to go with a double in the fifth inning and a single in the final frame.

Penta (2-1), who claimed MVP 2 honors and 212 leaderboard points, tossed 6.0 strong innings in the circle and allowed one run on three hits while adding two strikeouts. The former Auburn star carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before outfielder McKenzie Clark reached base on a bunt single with one out.

Middle Infielder Andrea Filler completed the MVP sweep for Team Mazon after receiving MVP 3 honors and 160 leaderboard points. She finished the evening 2-for-3 at the plate with a run batted in and a stolen base.

Montana Fouts (2-3) yielded six runs and scattered six hits in 4.2 innings in the loss for Team Alo. Three different players notched a hit in the setback, including a RBI double by captain Jocelyn Alo.

KEY MOMENT

Team Mazon surged to a 6-0 lead after plating four runs in the third inning and two more runs in the fifth inning. Vidales’ grand slam started the scoring in the third inning before she added an RBI double in the fifth, which was followed by an RBI single from catcher Jordan Roberts.

LEADERBOARD IMPACT

Alo remains atop the leaderboard with 1,308 points, while pitcher Mariah Mazon (1,138 points) moved up one spot to second place in the standings after garnering 142 leaderboard points in Sunday’s victory. After her record-setting performance, Vidales jumped five spots on the leaderboard into third place with 1,126 points heading into Tuesday’s season-ending twinbill.

GAME NOTES

  • Vidales hit the league’s fourth grand slam of the season, setting a new Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball single-season standard … She also became the 14th different player in AU Pro Softball history to hit a grand slam.

  • Vidales, who tied the Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball single-game record with her six runs batted in, also became the first player to drive in five or more runs in an AUX game since designated player Courtney Gano had six runs batted in against Team Zerkle on June 25, 2022.

  • Middle infielder Aubrey Leach extended her hitting streak to seven games with an infield single in the top of the third inning … Leach also has five multi-hit efforts in the last six outings after a 2-for-4 performance in Sunday’s nightcap.

  • Filler became the first player in the league to be caught stealing this season when she ended the top of the fourth inning trying to advance to third base … Runners were 13-for-13 in stolen base attempts prior to Filler being retired on the base paths.
