Recap: Team Lorenz Rallies for 5-4 Victory in Extra Innings
ROSEMONT, Ill. — Middle infielder Hannah Flippen scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning as Team Lorenz rallied to claim a 5-4 victory over Team Ocasio to complete Saturday’s Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball doubleheader at Parkway Bank Sports Complex
The win allowed Team Lorenz to remain undefeated at 2-0, while Team Ocasio saw its record fall to 1-1.
Middle infielder Erin Coffel earned MVP 1 honors and a season-high 210 leaderboard points after going 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in the fifth inning.
Corner infielder Jessi Warren followed with MVP 2 distinction after authoring a 3-for-3 performance with three doubles, giving the former Florida State product 200 leaderboard points.
Pitcher Rachel Garcia (2-3) earned the win in the circle after throwing 3.0 innings of no-hit relief with two strikeouts.
Corner infielder Delanie Wisz drove in all four runs for Team Ocasio in the loss to collect MVP 3 accolades. Wisz hit a three-run home run in the top of the first inning to give Team Ocasio a 3-0 lead before adding an RBI single in the top of the third inning.
Odicci Alexander (0-3) suffered the loss in relief after giving up the game-winning run. The 2023 AU Pro Softball Championship Season titleist did not allow a hit in 1.1 innings and registered a strikeout.
KEY MOMENT
Team Lorenz overcame a 4-2 deficit by scoring the game’s final three runs. Coffel evened the score at 4-all when she blasted her third home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field in the fifth inning. After Team Ocasio left two runners on base in the top of the eighth inning, Team Lorenz secured the victory when Flippen scored on a wild pitch by Alexander.
LEADERBOARD IMPACT
The victory will allow outfielder Amanda Lorenz to enter Sunday’s season finale doubleheader with a 210-point lead over pitcher Aleshia Ocasio. Coffel, meanwhile, surged five spots up the leaderboard into sixth place after her season-high 210-point performance.
