Recap: Team Alo Walks off Team Clark on Vidales' Blast, 3-2

WICHITA, Kansas – Corner infielder Tori Vidales blasted a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Team Alo over Team Clark, 3-2, to close out Series Two of the 2024 Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball AUX season on Monday night at Wilkins Stadium.

The win allowed Team Alo to earn a split of its two games while ending the series with a 2-2 mark. Team Clark also concludes the middle segment of the season at 2-2.

Vidales earned MVP 1 accolades and a season-high 210 leaderboard points after her walk-off blast, which was her second home run of the season. Designated player Nadia Taylor received MVP 2 laurels after tying the contest with a home run in the top of the final frame.

Middle Infielder Sydney McKinney claimed MVP 3 honors and 150 leaderboard points after a 2-for-3 effort at the plate in the victory.

Pitcher Taylor McQuillin upped her record to 4-1 after tossing 3.0 innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts.

Aleshia Ocasio (2-1) took the loss for Team Clark after yielding one run on two hits in 2.0 innings of relief.

KEY MOMENT

After Taylor tied the game at 2-2 with her solo blast in the top of the seventh inning, Vidales led off the bottom of the frame by belting a 2-1 pitch over the center field fence to give Team Alo the instant victory.

LEADERBOARD IMPACT

Outfielder Jocelyn Alo maintains the top spot on the leaderboard with 958 points at the completion of Series Two, while outfielder Bubba Nickles stands second with 896 points after her performance in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader. Pitcher Mariah Mazon sits third in the standings with 860 points. Vidales climbed 13 places up the leaderboard to seventh place with 766 points.

GAME NOTES

  • Team Alo initiated a captain’s challenge on an out call against middle infielder Andrea Filler in the bottom of the second inning … The call was overturned and the challenge was successful.

  • Team Clark also initiated a captain’s challenge on a safe call on a fielder’s choice by Alo in the bottom of the fourth inning … The call was upheld and the challenge was unsuccessful.

  • Teams are now 4-for-12 in captain’s challenges through 12 games this season.

  • All three teams finished with a 2-2 record for the second straight series.

  • Ten of the first 12 games this season have been decided by two runs or less, including seven games with a one-run margin.

  • Team Clark committed three errors in Wednesday’s nightcap, the most by any team in a game this season.

  • Taylor became the 19th different player to hit a home run this season with her blast in the seventh inning.

  • Middle infielder Aubrey Leach has recorded a hit in 6-of-8 games this season, including the last four in a row, after leading off the game with a single down the left field line.

  • McKinney has a hit in 7-of-8 games this season, including four multi-hit outings, following a 2-for-3 effort against Team Clark in Wednesday’s nightcap.
