Recap: North's Historic Performance Guides Team North over Team Kennedy, 11-9
SPARKS, Md. — Attacker Charlotte North set a new Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse single-game record with eight goals as Team North earned an 11-9 victory against Team Kennedy to start Sunday afternoon’s action at USA Lacrosse Headquarters.
Team North moves to 2-0 during Week Three competition, while Team Kennedy falls to 0-2.
North’s eight goals, two ground balls, and one draw control guided her to MVP 1 accolades and 231 leaderboard points, which is a new career high. North registered five of her goals in the first half, which is the most markers in a single half by one player in AU Pro Lacrosse history.
Midfielder Ally Mastroianni garnered MVP 2 honors and 118 leaderboard points after scoring three ties, including a two-point tally, with an assist and a game-high six draw controls despite the loss for Team Kennedy.
Goalkeeper Caylee Waters fashioned MVP 3 accolades with nine saves for Team North, including seven in the first half, to finish the game with 119 points toward the standings.
Behind North’s eight-goal tally, midfielder Amy Moreau and attackers Kenzie Kent and Livy Rosenzweig each recorded one marker to round out the goal scorers for Team North in the win.
For Team Kennedy, attacker Andie Aldave joined teammate Mastroianni with a hat trick and attacker Sam Geiersbach and midfielder Ally Kennedy also netted a goal.
In addition, defender Courtney Taylor picked up a team-high four ground balls for Team Kennedy.
Goalkeeper Britt Read made 12 saves in the loss.
KEY MOMENT
With Team North leading 5-3 at halftime, Team Kennedy stormed back onto the field to begin the third quarter with the first four goals of the second half, including a natural hat trick and a two-point strike from Mastroianni, to take an 8-5 lead with 6:45 left in the third. Team North put together a 6-1 scoring run over the rest of the game to retake the lead and hold on for an 11-9 victory.
LEADERBOARD IMPACT
North’s 231 leaderboard points gives her 1,171 for the season and takes over the top spot in the standings. Rosenzweig moved up four spots and into the top five with 890 points. Rookie midfielder Ellie Masera also bumped up three spots to seventh with 867 points. Note: The leaderboard includes points earned from Saturday’s suspended contest between Team North and Team Moreno.
