Recap: North's Historic Performance Guides Team North over Team Kennedy, 11-9

North’s eight goals, two ground balls, and one draw control guided her to MVP 1 accolades and 231 leaderboard points, which is a new career high. North registered five of her goals in the first half, which is the most markers in a single half by one player in AU Pro Lacrosse history.

Midfielder Ally Mastroianni garnered MVP 2 honors and 118 leaderboard points after scoring three ties, including a two-point tally, with an assist and a game-high six draw controls despite the loss for Team Kennedy.

Goalkeeper Caylee Waters fashioned MVP 3 accolades with nine saves for Team North, including seven in the first half, to finish the game with 119 points toward the standings.

Behind North’s eight-goal tally, midfielder Amy Moreau and attackers Kenzie Kent and Livy Rosenzweig each recorded one marker to round out the goal scorers for Team North in the win.

For Team Kennedy, attacker Andie Aldave joined teammate Mastroianni with a hat trick and attacker Sam Geiersbach and midfielder Ally Kennedy also netted a goal.

In addition, defender Courtney Taylor picked up a team-high four ground balls for Team Kennedy.

Goalkeeper Britt Read made 12 saves in the loss.

KEY MOMENT

With Team North leading 5-3 at halftime, Team Kennedy stormed back onto the field to begin the third quarter with the first four goals of the second half, including a natural hat trick and a two-point strike from Mastroianni, to take an 8-5 lead with 6:45 left in the third. Team North put together a 6-1 scoring run over the rest of the game to retake the lead and hold on for an 11-9 victory.

LEADERBOARD IMPACT

North’s 231 leaderboard points gives her 1,171 for the season and takes over the top spot in the standings. Rosenzweig moved up four spots and into the top five with 890 points. Rookie midfielder Ellie Masera also bumped up three spots to seventh with 867 points. Note: The leaderboard includes points earned from Saturday’s suspended contest between Team North and Team Moreno.

GAME NOTES

• The contest entered a weather delay as halftime began … The temporary postponement began at 1:48 pm and players resumed action at 2:43 pm … The delay lasted 55 minutes.

• Teams are now 5-for-14 in captain’s challenges in the 2024 season … Team Kennedy initiated a captain’s challenge at the 4:46 mark of the first quarter to challenge a ruling that rookie midfielder Cassidy Spilis was in the crease on a goal … The ruling on the field was upheld and no goal was given.

• North registered the 20th hat trick of her AU Pro Lacrosse career after notching her third goal of the game at the 3:24 mark of the first quarter … She ties attacker Sam Apuzzo for the most hat tricks in league history … It is her seventh hat trick in eight games this season.

• North earns 200 or more leaderboard points for just the second time in her AU Pro Lacrosse career … She earned 217 points on July 21, 2024 against Team Moreno.

• In addition, North’s captain’s record remains perfect at 2-0 in her first time as a team leader.

• Mastroianni netted three straight goals in the third quarter, including a two-point marker with 6:45 left in the frame … It was her fifth two-point score in her AU Pro Lacrosse career and the sixth time she has recorded at least three goals in a game.

• Aldave recorded the third hat trick of her Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse career after a goal at 3:37 in the fourth quarter.

• With 12 stopped shots in the contest, Read finishes with double-digit saves for the 13th time in her AU Pro Lacrosse career … She is tied with Waters for the second-most games with 10 or more saves in the league’s four-year history.

• Waters earned Game MVP honors for a consecutive game … She has 17 career Game MVP laurels, which is the second most in AU Pro Lacrosse history and trails only Apuzzo who has claimed postgame honors 27 times.
