Recap: Bats Come Alive for Team Svekis in 8-4 Victory

ROSEMONT, Ill. — Team Svekis used a complete team effort, including a three-hit outing from outfielder Aliyah Andrews, to claim an 8-4 victory over Team Alexander in the finale of Saturday afternoon’s Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball Championship Season doubleheader at Parkway Bank Sports Complex.

The win allowed Team Svekis to even its record at 1-1, while Team Alexander dropped to 0-2.

Led by Andrews, who garnered MVP 1 honors and 200 leaderboard points, all nine Team Svekis starters in the lineup registered at least one hit as the squad closed the win with 13 hits. The former LSU standout recorded a single in each of her first three at-bats before reaching on a fielder’s choice in the seventh inning.

Corner infielder Jessi Warren followed with an MVP 2 selection after going 2-for-4 with a double and three runs batted in, ending the game with 170 leaderboard points.

Rookie catcher Sharlize Palacios completed the Game MVP sweep after going 1-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in to receive MVP 3 recognition.

Peyton St. George (1-0) earned the win in relief after allowing one run on two hits over 3.0 innings with four strikeouts.

Middle infielder Aubrey Leach paced Team Alexander in the loss with a 2-for-4 showing, including a RBI double and a single, while five other players recorded a base hit. Mariah Mazon was tagged with the loss after conceding six runs, including five earned runs, on seven hits in 3.1 innings of work.

KEY MOMENT

Team Svekis overcame a 1-0 deficit by scoring four runs on five hits in the top of the third inning. Warren evened the score with a RBI single to right field before Palacios drove in two runs with a double to center field. Middle infielder Sis Bates upped the advantage to 4-1 with an infield single to plate Palacios.

LEADERBOARD IMPACT

Andrews vaulted into 18th place on the leaderboard after her 200-point outing, while Warren follows in 19th place after notching her 170 leaderboard points in the victory.

GAME NOTES

  • Team Alexander initiated a pair of captain’s challenges in Saturday’s second game … The squad’s first challenge on a triple by outfielder Victoria Hayward in the sixth inning was unsuccessful, while its challenge for a runner leaving early on Hayward’s single in the seventh inning was successful … Teams are now 1-for-4 in captain’s challenges through four games this season.

  • Catcher Mia Davidson was hit by a pitch for the league-record 16th time in her Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball Championship Season career after being plunked in the first inning … She has been hit by a pitch in five of her last six Championship Season contests dating back to last season.

  • Leach authored the 14th multi-hit game of her Championship Season tenure … The former Tennessee standout led off the first inning with an infield single before adding a RBI single in the second inning.

  • Andrews ran her hitting streak to 13 straight games dating back to last season after an infield single in the top of the third inning … She went 3-for-4 in the victory, marking the fifth three-hit game of her Championship Season career.

  • Rookie pitcher Kayla Beaver made her professional debut in the top of the fourth inning, entering the game in relief of Mazon … She allowed two runs on four hits over 2.2 innings with one strikeout
