Team Arsenault and Team Wood entered Sunday’s matinee matchup undefeated, but only one could come out victorious.

Team Wood had hat tricks from Cortney Fortunato and Lindsey Ronbeck to defeat Team Arsenault 13-10 and finish the weekend undefeated.

Here’s a look at all the action from the game:

Despite the rain coming down at Maureen Hendricks Field at Maryland SoccerPlex, goals Haley Hicklen and Caylee Waters made key stops for both sides to begin the game.

Shayna Pirreca opened the scoring with three minutes remaining in the first to get Team Arsenault on the board, but Team Wood’s Ella Simkins quickly responded off the draw.

Pirreca scored her second of the quarter to put Team Arsenault back in front. Team Wood followed with two of its own from Lindsey Ronbeck and Alex Aust to end the first quarter 3-2 and win 20 points for the team.

Cortney Fortunato scored the second third unanswered goal for Team Wood to begin the second quarter, while Hicklen continued her fantastic play in goal, making four saves in the quarter.

Sammy Jo Tracy picked up a ground ball in front of the net and took an around-the-world shot to bring Team Arsenault within one.

Molly Garrett extended the lead for Team Wood, and Alyssa Parrella, who scored hat tricks in the first two games of the weekend, tacked on another goal to make it 6-4.

With mere seconds to go till the half, Marie McCool fired from outside the crease. The pass deflected off of Kylie Ohlmiller’s stick to only count for one point, but tied the quarter at three goals apiece to carry over the win points to the third.

Team Wood entered the second half leading 6-5. Both teams held steady halfway through the quarter, but it was Ronbeck that broke the drought and put another point on the board for Team Wood. Taryn VanThof put another in the back of the net to extend Team Wood’s lead 8-5 – its largest lead on the day.

As the rain picked up again, Team Wood continued to pour it on. Fortunato scored her second 2-point goal of the season marking the fourth point of an unanswered run. McCool scored one for Team Arsenault before the end of the quarter, but it was not enough to prevent Team Wood from capturing the 40 win points from the quarter and a 10-6 lead.

After Lindsey McKone’s shot for Team Arsenault was ruled as no goal due to a shot clock violation, her teammates answered. Izzy McMahon fired one in on a jump shot, and McCool followed with her second goal of the afternoon.

Fortunato secured the hat trick and her 10th goal of the season, and shortly after Ronbeck grabbed her third goal of the game to put Team Wood back in control with a 13-8 lead.

Team Arsenault wasn’t done yet. Tracy grabbed her third goal of the game and captain Dempsey Arsenault scored one of her own to put her team within three goals with just under two minutes to play, but the team was unable to complete the comeback, falling to Team Wood 13-10.

Fortunato was named MVP 1 (+45) and finished the game 186 points. Simkins had 183 points, accumulated from 105 win points, 48 stat points and MVP 2 honors (+30). McKone was named MVP 3 (+15) and had 39 points on the day.

With one game remaining in Week 2 competition, Kayla Wood sits atop the leaderboard with 812 points, while Arsenault is behind her with 753 points. Ohlmiller, Arsenault’s teammate this week, is in third with 712 points and keeper Kady Glynn has 694 points in the fourth spot.
