Cortney Fortunato Announces Retirement from Pro Lacrosse

Cortney Fortunato is retiring from professional lacrosse.

Fortunato competed in three seasons with Athletes Unlimited Pro Lacrosse. She tallied 54 goals, six 2-point goals, and 18 assists. She also collected 28 ground balls.

She had her best finish with the league in 2021, finishing 12th on the leaderboard.

“Thank you to AU for providing an unbelievable opportunity to compete as a professional, I’ve had an amazing experience that I am forever grateful for,” Fortunato shared. “The decision to retire is a difficult one. I will miss getting the chance to play the game I love, but I am excited to watch how this league and all of the incredible women who play in it continue to help grow the game and inspire the next generation of players. Good luck to everyone this summer in Season 4!”

Fortunato competed at Notre Dame before playing two seasons with the Baltimore Brave and one with the Long Island Sound in the United Women’s Lacrosse League. She is the only player in Notre Dame history to earn four IWLCA All-America commendations and garnered First-Team honors as a sophomore and junior. She was also a three-time nominee for the Tewaaraton Award and a three-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer.
