Q&A with AU Pro Basketball signee Adut Bulgak
Get to know 2024 Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball athlete Adut Bulgak.
Bulgak is a center from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada who was drafted with the 12th overall pick in the 2016 WNBA Draft by the New York Liberty. She graduated from Florida State University and spent six years playing overseas in Israel.
1. What made you want to play with AU Hoops?
I wanted to join AU hoopers this season to be closer to home and be able to play in front of my friends and family again.
2. What aspect of your game have you been developing that you’re excited for fans to see?
Being an eight-year pro, I’ve noticed the game is always evolving. So, I’ve had to adjust to the new style of play. Also after giving birth, I lost most of my athleticism so I had to build my IQ. Just reading the game better.
3. Do you have any goals or expectations you’ve set for the upcoming season?
My expectations are to get some high-quality basketball. My goals are to hone in on my rebounding ability.
4. What are some of the biggest lessons you’ve learned in your journey as a pro?
Some of the biggest lessons I’ve learned about being a pro is that time management is crucial; time doesn’t wait for you. We get caught up in just being a basketball player but there are so many networks we can tap into outside of the game.
5. Tell us about a cause you’re passionate about.
[The Adut Bulgak Foundation] was founded by me to help provide resources to underprivileged youth and women through camps and enrichment programs. I am from South Sudan, the world’s youngest nation. Basketball has been a vessel of unity over the last few years. Many girls and boys have aspirations of playing basketball but lack the basic necessities to pursue it. So Adut Bulgak Foundation is looking to provide basketball equipment, shoes, shorts, and other resources to help give these kids the opportunity to pursue the game.
